We always say our furbabies chose us when we adopt them.

Well, this kitten chose Toast.

In this case, this tiny kitten chose Toast the dog to be her mother.

Toast lives in Greece with her mom, Lucie, and one day, they were outside their house when a tiny kitten walked up to Toast.

Lucie told Toast to be gentle because she was a tiny little kitten who could barely walk.

She tried to look for the mama cat while Toast licked and kissed her. They let the kitten be and went back inside the house.

Guess who followed them inside?

Yes, it was the tiny kitten.

Is she alone? Where is her mama? Where is the rest of her litter? Where did she come from?

But these questions didn’t matter to Toast or the kitten. For them, it was love at first sight. Or first lick.

The tiny kitten walked inside and went straight to Toast. She followed Toast everywhere and didn’t leave her side.

Guess who lives with Toast now?

When Lucie came out with her food, the tiny kitten went straight to the container, which was bigger than her.

Toast just looked at her and let her eat the food. A few seconds later, Toast joined her and they ate Toast’s food together.

After that, the two were practically inseparable.

Toast would help the tiny kitten get up on the furniture.

She would push her up the stairs and take her down the steps, too.

Toast was very protective and all these gestures made them closer than ever.

How close, you say?

The tiny kitten sleeps in the space between Toast’s stomach and legs.

And Toast has committed to taking care of the little kitty that she showed signs of a “stress pregnancy.”

In fact, she had been lactating, which the kitten had been drinking.

Toast was always looking for the kitten and the kitten always followed Toast’s guidance.

One day, while Toast, Lucie, and the kitten were all lounging by the pool, the kitten began to wander near the pool.

Toast was relaxing and on the verge of sleep but her ears perked up when she saw the kitten.

Toast got protective.

She got up and carried the kitten using her mouth back to where she was sitting.

Toast licked the kitten.

It was as if to say ‘I’m sorry for grabbing you but I’m just looking out for you.’

The kitten had already forgotten what happened and was just grateful to get all this love from her canine mom.

“She was super anxious for the cat and she was super alert,” Lucie described Toast’s relationship with the kitten. “They would cuddle because she was calmer when the cat was there.”

Toast and the kitten’s relationship shows that you don’t have to be the same species to care for each other.

Toast’s maternal instincts activated.

It happened as soon as she knew there was another animal that needed her care.

It doesn’t matter if they’re different animals. For Toast, compassion and love go beyond species.
