Golden retriever falls in love with new rescue kitten sister

Though the movies and cartoons would have us feel very differently, dogs and cats are perfectly capable of getting along with each other. As a matter of fact, one of the purest, sweetest things a person can ever experience is watching the bond between a dog and cat grow. That’s what Keelo and Koda’s mom was lucky enough to experience when she brought a tiny kitten home to her dog one day.

Koda was instantly taken with his big dog brother, Keelo, and the two are still best friends to this very day, over 5 years later. Though, from looking at their social media snap-shots you wouldn’t always know it…

The rescue kitten, named Koda, was tiny enough to fit in the palm of his mom’s hand, but his heart was big enough to fill the whole house.

The adorable little fluffball was only just a month old and still needed lots of extra cuddles.

It didn’t take Koda long to learn that Keelo was extra soft and cozy.

The cute little kitten began snuggling up to his big brother right away. Before long, Keelo became Koda’s favorite cuddle partner.

When he became a little older, though, the kitten started to get more and more curious about the world around him, as kittens do. One thing that he seemed to be particularly curious about was Keelo’s deep devotion to napping.

While his brother was sleeping, the kitten started to do what all siblings are known for best; messing with each other.

Keelo, being the gentle old soul that he is, didn’t seem to mind it much when the kitten started swatting at him.

The dog’s lack of enthusiasm did, however, seem to bother Koda an awful lot. Before long, he made it his goal to get his dog brother riled up, and for a long time, Keelo refused to take the bait.

Eventually, though, Koda got the better of his brother and Keelo became more and more playful.

To honor the 8-month-long road to their long, beautiful friendship, Keelo and Koda’s mom decided to create a touching video montage of their growing bond.

She uploaded the video to youtube in 2015 where it quickly went viral, bringing in over 5 million views.

The video opens with Koda as a tiny kitten creeping up to his brother for cuddles. At first, their bond is formed of lots of long, cozy naps together.

As time moves on, you can see Koda becoming more and more curious.

The kitten starts exploring the boundaries of his relationship to his new dog sibling and vice versa.

Though they gently tested the waters of friendship at first, it wasn’t long before the two were full-blown besties. They fought like brothers, played like brothers, and loved like brothers

A montage of clips of our rescued ginger kitten, Koda, growing up with our family’s Golden Retriever, Keelo. They were instant friends when we first brought Koda home (who was only about a month old at the time, and could fit perfectly in my hand!). 8 months have passed since then and they still continue to be as close as ever. Their bond is incredible and something I’ve never seen between a large dog and a tiny cat before!” Keelo and Koda’s mom captioned the video.

Though Koda and Keelo’s time spent with one another has changed both of them in a lot of ways, one thing remains the same. Keelo’s favorite pastime is napping, while Koda’s favorite pastime is swatting at his brother while he is napping.
