Calling all movie lovers!

If you’re a fan, and are particularly enamored with cinema from the 1970s-1980s, then you’ve undoubtedly been acquainted with Goldie Hawn. Currently seventy-five-years-old, Hawn is a beloved actress who has enjoyed a long-time career in the film industry.

While her early love-life was relatively unstable (with two ex-husbands and multiple relationships), she eventually crossed paths and found lasting love in the eyes of actor Kurt Russell. Although they’ve never married, they’ve been long-time partners since 1983.

Their relationship is one of the most admirable in Hollywood, with their love plain to see. One watch of their hit movie Overboard and you’ll get all you need to know.

So it’s no surprise that for Hawn’s birthday this year, on November 21st, that Russell gave her the celebration of a lifetime.

The location? The Grove Mall in Los Angeles. This is where Russell decided to surprise his partner of over thirty-seven years at the drive-in event for the movie they’re co-starring in entitled The Christmas Chronicles: Part II. In the movie Russell and Hawn co-star as Mr. and Mrs. Claus, making it the fifth time they’ve starred in a movie together since Swing Shift in 1984.

The surprise? A montage of all of Hawn’s costars wishing her the happiest 75th birthday via pre-recorded videos. They also brought a delicious cake for the celebration.

The movie’s cast and production team only have good things to say of Hawn and Russell’s on-screen performances.

Hawn’s co-stars, Tyrese Gibson, and film director Chris Columbus gave loving speeches:

“We’re so privileged to have you in our world. An incredibly gifted comedic actress, a great dramatic actress”

“The best Mrs. Claus in cinema history”

And other production members complimented Russell’s performance as Mr. Claus:

“I like your approach to these characters because you take them seriously…This is not a caricature or a cartoon.”

One thing is for sure, these two are responsible for some serious magic, on and off the screen.

The pair first met on the set of the Disney musical, The One and Only Genuine Original Family Band, in 1968. Back then, Russell was but a mere fifteen years old, and Hawn was just twenty. But the time for their love wasn’t right then. Eventually, they met again much later, on the set of Swing Shift. At that point, both had been divorced but were not actively looking for love.

Russell recalls the moment he met Hawn to CBS News:

“Matter of fact, when I met Goldie, I was at a time in my life and a period of my life where I was very definitely gonna put my worst foot forward when it came to any kind of a relationship, or the possibility of a relationship…I put my worst foot forward. If you can handle that, then maybe there’s a chance of some reality there being together.”

Hawn’s response to him?

“You put your worst foot forward? I could hardly say that…I would say if you’d done that with me I wouldn’t be with you today.”

And the rest is ultimately a beautiful history between the two. With over thirty-five years together, four children, and six grandchildren, the couple are in love as ever. Their secret to their long-lasting relationship is simply wanting to be together.
