Well-behaved labs show off their training, patiently waiting for each one’s name to be called
One of America’s most beloved dog breeds, Labrador retrievers are friendly and outgoing. They make a great family pet, the breed’s high-spirited companionship making them a perfect choice for a family with children. Their desire to please and high drive make them a perfect candidate for training.
One dog owner in the U.K. has had her black Labs trained so well that they sit quietly until she calls their name.
A pack of well-trained dogs
In a video on Rumble, six black Labradors sit silently as they are addressed by the daughter of Jennifer Thomas, an acclaimed dog trainer from Buckinghamshire, England. Thomas’ daughter had gotten the six dogs to raise and asked her mom to train them for her.
Watching the video, Thomas did a great job.
The dogs sit quietly awaiting their owner’s command
In the video, the six dogs, all girls ranging from one to 13 years old, sit on a walkway. The dogs are waiting to go on a trip, and they sit calmly just outside a gateway waiting to go inside.
One by one, Thomas’ daughter calls them out by name. As she says their name, each dog gets up and walks through the gate.
The dogs are very patient
Many dogs would probably not have the patience to wait so long, but these girls do. They are a testament to Thomas’ skill as a trainer, and the dogs’ love and respect for their mom. Their mom, of course, proud of them as well.
Do Labs make good candidates for training?
With an intelligent temperament and desire to please, Labradors are an easy breed of dog to train. This combined with their work ethic makes them great for work as service dogs, with many Labradors finding work in search and rescue, detection, therapy, and working with the disabled.
The breed’s non-aggressive behavior also helps them get along with humans and other dogs with ease. Starting their training when they are still puppies makes it a lot easier, as they tend to have high energy. This makes it harder to control that energy as they get older. But, if trained properly, they will easily obey simple commands, as well as more complex ones.
How to easily train your Labrador
A reward system is one of the best and easiest ways to train a Labrador. Through the use of positive reinforcement techniques, such as giving praise and treats when obeying commands, they will remain happy during the training process and are more likely to participate more enthusiastically.
By providing a Lab plenty of companionship and making training fun, you can ensure that your Lab grows up to be a healthy and happy dog that will be a well-trained and treasured member of your family.
