Landlord waives woman's rent then sends her a text saying "go to your front porch"
COVID-19 has affected us all, not just those who have become ill with the virus.
Many of us have lost our jobs as a result of businesses being forced to shut to stop the virus from spreading. With no clear idea on how long it will be until the pandemic passes, people are faced with an entirely uncertain future.
Thousands of hardworking citizens across the world have had no choice but to shut themselves away at home, with no income and no idea how they will afford to survive.
Luckily, the government is stepping up to help in states all over the US, but thatās not all. Strangers are doing their bit to support those in need right now, from delivering groceries to the vulnerable to donating cash and supplies to the people who are struggling the most.
One woman who found herself in a less-than-ideal situation as a result of the pandemic is Christina Marie of Saginaw, Mich.
As a mom of four, Marie had a huge responsibility on her shoulders ā feeding herself and her kids, whose school had shut, meaning they had to stay at home every day.
She was understandably concerned about how she would make it through these next few months. But then her landlord did something that she never could have expected.
Sharing a post to Facebook, Marie said:
āSOOO My landlord Alan called me earlier and told me not to worry about rent this month and we will worry about it later. [I] said okay!ā
This in itself is a thoughtful enough gesture. Weāve seen landlords offering to reduce rent for their tenants, but to offer Marie a roof over her head at no cost at all for the time being is even kinder.
But, amazingly, her landlord still had another surprise up his sleeve. According to Marie:
āThen he asked me if we had food. I told him how I had 3 packs of meat left and needed to go this week and he told me okay be safe. Then I get a text saying go to your front porch please!!! And I see this. I couldnāt tell you how I feel right now for him to do this for my family. My heart is so touched. GOD BLESS YOU.ā
Marie shared an image of what had been left on her front porch:
There was hundreds of dollarsā worth of groceries. Sixteen bags, plus boxes of diapers, cartons of milk and bags of vegetables, sitting waiting to be taken inside.
The Landlord, known only as Alan, hadnāt just nipped to the shops and picked out a few essentials. Heād spent a lot of money to help Marie stay stocked up for the next couple of weeks. What an incredible thing to do, and what an incredible man.
Facebook users were quick to praise Alan for his selfless act in the comments beneath Marieās post. One user, Brandee Cobus, said that Alan is āAmazingā, and added:
āIt literally shows me Iām not wrong in believing there is good in this world!ā
Alan even inspired other landlords to do the same. Landlord Don Stoppe commented:
āThank you for your thoughtful insight. I am drafting a letter to my tenants now.ā
We could certainly do with all the love, respect and community support in the world right now. Stories like this one, of one selfless landlord, give us hope that together, we will make it through these trying times.
