Last pup in shelter finally shows the sweetest smile when he finds a home
A new home brings a smile to the last dog left in the shelter.
Nobody likes to see a dog being homed in a shelter but when he is the last one left to find a home it is even more heart-wrenching.
Capone is a seven-year-old Stafford dog who was being housed by the Iowa Animal Shelter. He was no stranger to a lot of people who visited there. As lovable as he is Capone could just never capture the heart of anyone who wanted to take him home.
Capone was at the shelter for so long that he ended up being the last pup available for adoption at one point.
They Came And Went
Capone would see new dogs come and go while he was always left behind feeling very lonely.
No Reason Why
The director of the animal recalls how strange it was that Capone at times was the only dog at the shelter. There didnât seem to be any reason why Capone wasnât getting a new home.
A Past Experience
Capone had been at the shelter previously two years ago and was adopted by a family. Unfortunately, an altercation between Capone and another pup took place and Capone was returned to the shelter.
A Big Change
This time when Capone returned to the shelter he was not the same happy dog he had been when he left. He was depressed and wouldnât eat. He was missing the family that had originally taken him. It got to the point where this began to affect his health and well being. This meant the shelter staff had to be extra vigilant at making sure that Capone would eat. Capone ended up losing a lot of weight.
It was like Capone had changed into a completely different dog that the staff did not recognize from the year before.
Capone was not a trustworthy dog when it came to other dogs and humans so he was isolated by his behavior. In spite of all of this, the staff declared he had a lovely nature and was always kind.
A Velco Dog
Capone earned the nickname Velcro dog because he always likes to stick right by your side.
Pet Free Family
The shelter put every effort into searching for a home with no other pets that would be willing to adopt Capone. It made it much more difficult to find him a home.
A Pay Off
Finally, a post on social media paid off.
John and Ashley Fall In Love With Capone
After seeing the Facebook postings the couple fell in love with Capone.
The Introduction
The couple was so excited about becoming Capone’s new family they stopped and had a name tag made for him. However, the deal could not be finalized if Capone didnât take to the couple.
Capone was brought out to the waiting room where John and Ashley were while Capone observed them for a bit. But as soon as the couple knelt down Capone ran into their arms.
A Heaven Made Match
That moment made it very clear that these three belonged together.
Capone’s tears were gone but the entire staff at the shelter were on the brink of tears over Capone finally getting a forever home.
