Lazy dog takes adorable tantrum when she realizes mom wants to take the stairs

Most dogs love to go for walks in the park where they can run and play to their heart’s content. But if you are Nala, a beautiful, blue-eyed Siberian husky, then you do not like exercise. This is especially true when it comes to the stairs in the building she lives in with her mom, Aurora Angel Beste. Recently, Nala showed her displeasure when her mom wanted to take the stairs.

Beste says that Nala is one of the friendliest dogs you could meet. Her only vice is that she is lazy. “She’s quite the character,” Beste told The Dodo. “So friendly but so, so lazy.”

The usual routine that Nala and her mom follow is to take the elevator when they get home each day. When they do take the stairs, the dog prefers to be carried by Beste. And while Beste usually complies with this small demand, Nala’s vet had mentioned that the dog had been putting on some weight.

So, to get Nala more exercise, Beste decided to start taking the stairs. Of course, once Nala found out she was none too pleased. The stubborn husky even staged a protest the first day her mom insisted they take the stairs, though this time, she wanted Nala to walk up them.

“Her first day doing stairs was kinda rough,” Beste wrote on her Facebook.

Regardless of Nala’s insistence that she didn’t want to walk up the stairs, Beste was persistence in the pair walking up the five flights of stairs to their floor. By the time they had reached the second floor, Nala was at her breaking point, lying down and refusing to go forward any more.

Eventually, Beste was able to convince her to continue, but by the time they reached the fourth floor, Nala had decided she had had enough, again. This time, Nala stuck her nose into the corner of the stairwell, refusing to look at Beste. All they had left was the fifth floor.

The inner drama queen emerges

At this point, Nala had truly had enough walking and collapsed onto the floor like the drama queen she is. Maybe this was a last-ditch effort to impose her will on the situation for any further trips up the stairs. But, for Nala’s sake, Beste decided that this was now their reality, whether Nala liked it or not.

Over time, Nala has started to take the stairs, if begrudgingly so. She still does protest upon occasion, according to Beste. And while Beste hopes Nala can grow to like walking up the stairs, chances are that won’t be happening any time soon.

“It depends on her mood now,” Beste said. “Sometimes she’ll go up without a fight and sometimes she’s so stubborn. But she has no sense of urgency so even if she does go up — she takes her sweet time.”

While Nala doesn’t like to go up the stairs because she is lazy, some dogs do not know how to negotiate stairs. Here is a video with more on how to teach your dog to go up and down the stairs.
