Rescuers never been so stunned by surrendered dog – it just 'wasn't what they wanted'
Animal cruelty.
Truth be told, despite the existence of certain laws against animal cruelty, there are still countless cases of it all over the world and they keep on racking up. This is one bitter fact about these poor animals, they give out love but they get ill-treatment in return.
Thankfully, the number of non-profit animal rescue organizations also keeps on piling up to protect and save these abused and abandoned animals. These groups and even individuals stand to fight for animal rights and to give homeless animals another shot in life by giving them whatever they need.
Their ultimate goal is to get them their new forever homes and new owners who will treat them like “family.”
One of them is ‘The Asher House.’

They are a registered non-profit sanctuary located in Estacada, Oregon. According to their official website, “We rescue animals that have been discarded or unwanted, providing them with a life of comfort, love and adventure.”
The Asher House was founded by Lee Asher in 2020 and it all started when his Pitbull Stella passed away. Since then, Lee has traveled across 49 states to educate people about the importance of dog adoption.

“Lee was determined to fulfill his lifelong dream of creating a sanctuary, where animals could feel treasured, protected and free. In late 2020, Lee discovered a large parcel of property which was the perfect setting to turn his vision into a reality.”
In one of his recent rescues, Lee was shocked by a surrendered dog for the first time.
According to Lee in a YouTube video that now has a whopping 2.1 million views, the puppy was surrendered to them by a family. As it turned out, the little dog was bought by some parents and gave it to their little daughter whom he believed is a toddler.
“They said the puppy isn’t what they expected,” he said while telling the reason why the family gave up the dog.
It’s sad to hear that they simply surrendered the dog for that reason alone. Lee was definitely experienced in dogs and animal rescues, but this one came in as a total shock to him.
“I really just couldn’t believe that this was the dog that was coming home with me. I couldn’t believe that she was covered in all of these different magic markers, and she just looked so scared of everything,” The Asher House’s founder exclaimed in disbelief.
The scared pup kept on whining and crying.
Lee knew it wasn’t a good idea to introduce the new dog named “Poppy” to the rest of the pack (his dogs at home) because it might trigger some negative emotions from the scared dog.
After arriving home, the first thing that he did was to give the pup a refreshing bath. He also hoped that all the colored marks on Poppy weren’t permanent inks. After cleaning the little pooch up, he thought it was going to start feeling better but he was wrong.
He said, “I really thought that she was going to start feeling better after the bath. But the reality is, this dog was not okay. I thought that maybe she could come out of her shell a little bit but man, I never saw a dog, most of all just a puppy, so traumatized.”
We can’t agree enough, what could’ve possibly happened to Poppy with the previous family?
Lee didn’t give up, he showered Poppy with tons of cuddles and all the love in the world.
He’d pet the pup endlessly, cuddle with her, and share his bed with her. His years of experience with dogs really helped him in making the tiny dog fit into the pack day by day.
“…we did what we usually do in any situation when we bring in a scared dog, we just shower them with love. And that’s what we did with Poppy.”
Days went by and Poppy started to embrace her new human and her new furry siblings. She started playing with the other dogs and little by little, her positive aura and beautiful personality began to show up.
Soon, Lee, Poppy, and the rest of the pack started to go out for walks and enjoy the beautiful outdoors. Poppy eventually turned into the lively dog, an entirely different version of herself when Lee first met her.
“As the days went by, I realized how special she really is,” Lee concluded. “I never had a dog like her.”
Let this be a call out to all owners – stop abusing your dogs because they deserve not only the good but the best things in life.
