Guy spends $400 taking limping dog to vet only to learn the dog was copying him

Sympathy pains, they’re such a mystery but a great sign that someone cares about you.

But did you know that animals are capable of this phenomenon as well? That’s right, your beloved dog or cat may observe you and care more about your pain than they let on.

For Russell and his dog Billy, this incredible physical ailment showed up in a surprising way.

Russell got injured and had his leg put in a cast. This meant that he had to limp around for a while while he was healing.

He wasn’t too happy about it but he was fine. Then, he noticed something pretty weird.

His dog also started limping. But Russell couldn’t understand what was going on, Billy seemed totally fine.

So Russell, who was very confused at this point, took his dog to the vet to see what was going on.

The vet confirmed that there was nothing ailing Billy. He just saw that his owner was limping and he wanted to join him! It was a gesture of solidarity during Russell’s recovery.

All in all, with the visit and the x-rays included, it cost Russell £300 to find out that his dog has a lot of compassion and dedication to him.

It’s not uncommon for a dog to want to show displays of sympathy for their owner.

Ceasar’s Way explains this:

“There are a number of different creatures that imitate others within their own species. People imitate other people. Birds imitate other birds. Non-human primates like monkeys and apes imitate others in their group.

But dogs not only imitate other dogs—they copy what we do as well. What’s even crazier is that they have been known to do so even when the imitation doesn’t benefit them…Experts think that dogs’ tendency to copy us came about through thousands of years of selective breeding and training. Over time, it grew to become a built-in reaction.”

It’s pretty cute that Billy was observant enough to notice and care when his human needed some support.

Now that dog is definitely this man’s best friend! Russell posted a video on Facebook showing exactly how Billy was copying and the video got some great reactions.

Some people are finding the humor in the situation:

“The dog deserves an Academy Award!”

While others are taking this as valuable evidence of how great dogs are:

“Our 4 legged friends…no better companions who love unconditionally!”

Some people even confirmed that this happened to them and their dog as well when they got injured!

Billy became so popular on the internet that Russell started an Instagram just for the dog.

Now you can always keep up with this sweetheart pup’s antics!

It’s so sweet to see that his love for his owner goes such a long way. Their close bond is evident in so many photos and videos.

Billy is just another example of dogs being better and more loving than us in so many ways. We are lucky to have them.
