The lions are taking it easy as people in South Africa are in lockdown
If you don’t live under a rock, you know the entire world has been shut down due to the global pandemic. With businesses and national parks closed, very few people are inhabiting the outside world.
Mother Nature has very clearly been saying “thank you,” as canals in Italy are clearer than ever before and air quality in China improves.
We’ve almost been quarantined for 2 months and it’s no surprise that our environment has been benefiting from people staying inside. Wildlife has certainly been much happier without our appearance. Animals all over the world have been enjoying spots they never get to because of humans always being around.
Just recently in South Africa’s Kruger National Park, a whole lion pride was spotted taking a nice catnap in the middle of the road!
These incredible photographs were taken by a park ranger named Richard Sowry. The park ranger was able to get up close and personal with these beautiful lions where touring guides would usually be rolling through. The lions couldn’t be more relaxed now that they don’t have to worry about all of the flash photography.
The astonishing photos show about ten lions sprawled across the entire road.
It certainly looks like a perfect place for this lion pride to sunbathe. That’s not the only unusual site at Kruger National Park. The park has been noticing plenty of wildlife activity in places that would usually be busy with people.
The Skukuza golf club that’s within the National Park spotted lions enjoying the sunrise inside the course.
A lioness even stopped for some nice morning hydration in the golf clubs ponds. These remarkable views were taken by Jean Rossouw, the head of the Skukuza and he’s been enjoying every moment. How could you not adore watching these gorgeous animals rise with the sun!
These lions are truly enjoying every minute of quiet time while all of the humans are gone.
African wild dogs even made a debut throughout the golf club! All sorts of animals are joining the “no human party”. Although wildlife has been roaming in spots that are usually occupied by people, it hasn’t been all rainbows and butterflies. Poachers have been exploiting the fact that prime tourist spots are now empty. Sadly, since the lockdown 9 rhinos were found poached. But the hunt to find these poachers and lock them up continues. If only humans could just leave these precious species alone…
The quarantine will eventually come to an end and until then these animals are going to take a tour for themselves.
It’s miraculous watching these regal lions make themselves at home throughout Kruger National Park. We love watching this park share their view of the less populated park. While you’re hanging out on the couch you can follow their Twitter to watch what the animals are up to during quarantine. You certainly won’t regret it!
For now, these cozy lions are enjoying their new hangout spots without being interrupted by visitors.
