Little boy sings to baby brother with Down syndrome and melts the hearts of millions

Nicole Powell’s youngest boy, Tripp, was born with Down syndrome. Like any mother, she was afraid other kids would be “ashamed” of him.

It was her other son, Rayce, who alleviated her fears. A video shows him on the bed with his six-week-old brother cradled in his arms. Rayce was six at the time.

The song “10,000 Hours” by Dan + Shay and Justin Bieber plays in the background. That has Rayce singing the song to his little brother.

He sang, “I’d spend 10,000 hours and 10,000 more, oh, if that’s what it takes to learn that sweet heart of yours. And I might never get there but I’m gonna try. If it’s 10,000 hours or the rest of my life I’m gonna love you.”

It was in December 2019 when Nicole posted the video on Facebook.

The mom of five explained that Rayce sings to Tripp as a means of bonding with him. The song is about a husband and wife but to Rayce, it’s about him and his brother.

“Love doesn’t count chromosomes, or as Rayce says, “Aren’t we all different?” Nicole wrote.

Nicole used her phone to recorded the boys, which she sent to her husband, JJ. But Rayce and Tripp’s precious moment just had to be shared.

Nicole often wondered why she had a baby with Down’s syndrome.

She now thinks that they were meant to bring love and awareness.

Tripp was born on November 21, 2019. He spent one month in the NICU, but was finally cleared so he went home on Christmas Eve. His family was always there to visit him.

Nicole and JJ learned that through scans, Tripp would likely have Down syndrome during scans. Doctors recommended terminating the pregnancy but the couple refused.

Nicole was apprehensive about their situation especially since she didn’t known much about Down syndrome yet.

Then she thought of how her other kids would treat him.

“I thought, ‘I have four other children, they all love each other, I just want them to love him the same way they love each other,’” she said.

The couple decided to tell their kids early on about Tripp, even though they didn’t have all the knowledge yet.

“We told them it just means he will be different but he’s still your brother. The boys answered and told us ‘but we’re all different.’ And we were like ‘okay, this is going to be fine,’” Nicole said.

Rayce is naturally sweet, so when Nicole and JJ informed the kids about Down syndrome, little Rayce didn’t have to think or adjust so much. He’s very hands-on with his brother!

This couple did the right thing by accepting and loving Tripp. Teaching their kids about kindness and love was the right move too.

Tripp is now two years old. He is very close with Rayce and the rest of his siblings. Follow TeamTripp on Facebook for more on this wonderful family. The pictures are too cute!
