Little boy gets a timeout, but faithful dog refuses to let him do it alone
There’s a reason we love our dogs so much. They are the most faithful, loyal, trusting, and steadfast friends that anyone could ever have. They will always stick right by your side, through thick and thin, good times and bad. Thankfully, their comforting presence seems to make the hard times just a bit softer.
A little boy found this out for himself recently when he was forced to take a timeout and his devoted dog refused to let him suffer through it alone.
Dogs can do some pretty interesting things sometimes, especially when it comes to comforting their humans. On the other hand, they also know that sometimes a timeout is necessary. In fact, there have been doggos known to put themselves in a timeout for something they’re feeling guilty over, all on their own.
Peyton and his dog Dash have been best friends since the day they met. Jillian Marie Smith, Peyton’s mom, knew that Dash would add something extra special to her family’s lives when she brought him home.
“Dash has made life happier for the whole family. Most of all, for Peyton. If you ask Peyton, Dash is his buddy,” Smith tells The Dodo.
Like with any family, there are days where Peyton just doesn’t get along with his sister.
Also just like any young boy, there are days where Peyton’s attitude gets out of hand and needs some self-correcting. So, after instigating a fight with his sister a couple of weeks ago, the little boy’s parents told him to take a timeout to think about his behavior.
Even though it was just a simple timeout, Dash couldn’t bear to see his friend endure it by himself.
After some time had passed, Peyton’s mom crept up to make sure he was okay and doing as he was told. When she did, what she saw melted her heart.
Peyton was standing with his head against the wall and taking his timeout, but he wasn’t doing it alone.
Dash had snuck over to his little buddy and leaned up against him to give him comfort and show him some support. For all intents and purposes, the dog was serving time in a self-imposed timeout, all so his human knew that he wasn’t going it alone.
In response to the dog’s show of devotion, Peyton, keeping his head pressed against the wall, had reached his arm back to wrap around Dash’s big ol’ noggin. He was silently letting the dog know how much his presence meant to him.
Dash might not be a certified therapy dog, but there is no questioning that that’s exactly what he is for his humans.
“Dogs make such effective therapy animals because of their sensitivities to human emotion. They have been proven time and time again to show sympathy and empathy by nuzzling or whining when they sense a human is sad or in general emotional distress,” writes the Alliance for Therapy Dogs on their website.
After seeing the heartwarming display of affection from both her son and her dog, it was impossible for Smith to stay angry at her son.

“I couldn’t be mad long because it was just so cute how Peyton wrapped his arm around Dash. When Peyton had to go to time-out, I think Dash knew he needed his buddy,” Peyton’s mom explains.
Peyton is still just a young boy and he still has a long road and a lot of lessons to learn in life. It’s beautiful, though, that his best fur buddy is already teaching him the most important lesson of all. That love is the answer to everything.
