Little girl innocently asks parents' permission to say a "bad" word
Kids’ innocence makes them so adorable in more ways than one. They are still on the stage of life where they learn new things almost every day. They observe things and people around them and oftentimes, they adapt to whatever they see and hear.
Now, it’s the parents’ responsibility to ensure their children are learning only the things that are right for their age. Yes, kids are allowed to learn things from older folks but not ALL.
This cute little girl learned something “bad”.
In a viral YouTube video posted by RM Videos, it seemed that a kid was able to pick up something that’s not right for her age.
The video starts with an innocent question coming from the little girl. She goes off asking dad:
“Daddy? Can I say a bad word?”
It’s not a usual question that you’d expect to come from a girl of her age. Daddy gets speechless but mom steps in and tells their daughter:
“No, you can not say a bad word. That’s not nice.”
Mommy disapproving it makes the daughter’s face look in total disappointment. However, she insists on getting her dad’s answer.
“Can I ask daddy? Daddy, can I say a bad word?”
Dad is not giving his answer.
We don’t know if dad is ignoring the question or if he’s holding back a boisterous laugh behind the camera.
But hey, where did this little cutie learn the “bad” word?
To explain where do children often pick up such words, Raising Children (The Australian Parenting Website) wrote:
“Children pick up swear words from many sources, outside and inside the home…
Not all children learn swear words from their parents. Exposure to swear words on TV can lead to an increase in swearing in children. As children get older, their friends and peers will influence their choice of words too.”
What is this “bad” word that she wants to say so badly?
Mom asks (in a foreign language) her daughter what the bad word is to which the adorable kid answers:
“Um? Oh, shoot.”
And yes, that’s the “bad” word that she wanted to say, she wanted to say it so bad that she even asked for her parents’ permission. But still, mom says it’s not okay to say the word.
The video went viral and now has over 4.4 million views with 124,000 likes and thousands of comments. To most of the comments, the word probably isn’t really as bad as it seems to mom and dad, however, one comment disagrees with that thought.
YouTube user Jayy wrote:
“Imagine your so young that “oh shoot” is the baddest bad word for you instead of what we all know 🥺🤚
But it’s good that the mum said no because even if it isn’t a bad word if you said yes it would imply that saying bad words is fine which it is not”
While according to YouTube user Kate Ortiz, things could’ve been handled in a much better way:
“If I were the mom in that situation I wouldn’t shut my child off so easily. I’d instead steer them in a different, more positive direction. For example I’d say something along the lines of “Saying “oh shoot” may seem inappropriate. You can say “uh-oh” or “hmmm” instead.”
“Children wont understand the dramatic difference but telling them a simple “no” with no explanation and or redirection wont expand their knowledge and can often leave them confused and feeling like they have no power. (Children like to feel like they have some control over things in their life).”
All points were well taken but let’s just leave the rest to the adorable kid and her parents. After all, they know their daughter best, and they still did a good job in handling their kid’s question.
But hey, has anyone of you noticed? She was still able to say the word at least 4 times in the video. Clever kid, isn’t she?
