Brave 5-year-old springs into action to save her mother who was having a seizure in the pool
As a parent, the first thing that comes into mind is to keep your children safe. It’s a full-time job to limit all of the bonked heads and other accidents that happen to kiddos. In hopes that their kids make smart choices to avoid accidents.
But, kids can only learn how to act when they are put into situations where they have to make big decisions.
In this case, mother Tracy Anderwald learned exactly how her 5-year-old daughter Allison reacts in the time of an emergency. Tracy and Allison were enjoying a lovely afternoon by the pool at Tracy’s sister’s house. They were both splashing in the sunshine until Tracy started having a seizure.
Tracy’s head was face down in the middle of the pool and unresponsive.
That is when 5-year-old Allison without hesitation sprung into action. Allison jumped right into the pool to push her mother to the shallow end of the pool. Then Allison flipped her mother’s body over so her head was not face down in the pool.
The 5-year-old jumped out of the pool to go get help and thankfully her aunt was walking right to the house so she could call 911.
The emergency team was at the house in no time. The mother Tracy woke up in the hospital without having a clue where she was. Tracy was amazed to learn that her brave daughter Allison saved her life. It was also caught on tape from the security cameras in her sister’s backyard, so she could watch the whole thing for herself.
Watching 5-year-old Allison quickly react in the tense situation gives you chills.
Allison could have easily panicked and cried out for her aunt, but that’s not the case. Allison knew that time was ticking and she would do anything to save her mother. It is crucial to teach kids how to swim if their around water all the time or not.
The importance of teaching them young will have them prepared for any situation that they are around water in the future.
It is also much easier to teach kids how to swim at a younger age rather than teenagers. Allison learned how to swim when she was 2-years-old and it’s surely paid off. Allison’s mother Tracy even shared smiles saying that a lifeguard job could very well be in Allison’s future.
Without the quick actions that Allison took, her mother might have had a slim chance of surviving that horrific accident.
Allison’s aunt Tedra Hunt even said during an ABC interview,
“The doctors explained to us that had Tracy been underwater any longer, she probably wouldn’t be with us right now. It is truly amazing that this little girl, who’s actually also pretty small for her age, was able to save my sister.”
It is remarkable watching how brave this little girl was during such a terrifying incident.
But, Allison is thrilled to have her mom back and ready to cuddle. Tracy and the family hope that their story inspires other families will look into the importance of teaching their kids how to swim. For the full story watch the video below.
