Woman shows what it’s like living in a walk-in closet-sized New York apartment
If you were given a chance to live in Midtown Manhattan for only $650/month but it’s a tiny apartment, would you take it?
We mean, like, really tiny.
Alaina Randazzo chose to live in this apartment immediately.
She used to live in a luxury apartment in a Manhattan high-rise building with floor-to-ceiling windows, which cost her $2,500 per month.
And since the building had a lot of amenities, she rarely left the building.
She didn’t want that life anymore.
So, she started looking for new apartments. Alaina found this 80 sq. ft. apartment by accident.
She had actually gone to the building to look at another apartment, which had a bathroom and an oven. But it was taken before she could see it.
The agent then told her about this apartment, which was a hot commodity.
It was a small apartment, which only had room for a small kitchen/living room, a loft bed, and a skylight.
There was no bathroom (she had to use the shared bathroom in the hallway) and no oven.
Despite the micro lodging, Alaina did not mind because the rent was so ideal.
It allowed her to do more.
It allowed her to have more money for investments, travel, and experience New York City life.
“I feel like this apartment’s definitely for someone who’s on the go because I honestly will use it just to sleep here,” Alaina explained.
Caleb Simpson, a YouTuber and TikToker famous for asking people if he can see their apartments, was astounded at the small size of the apartment.
He said it was so small, you couldn’t even do an at-home workout.
But Alaina doesn’t mind since the building has a rooftop that’s easy to access and where she can do yoga.
Or she can just go out and do her workout on the streets or parks in New York.
Alaina does have a tiny kitchen.
It hosts a two-burner stovetop, a sink, and a bar fridge.
She does have two small cabinets and a shelf for her pantry. And a few steps away, she’s got a micro-couch set up against the wall that can also double as a guest bed, if she ever invites friends over.
This is where she props up a small table when she works or watches on her flat-screen TV right across her couch.
To get to her loft bedroom, she has to climb up slanted steps on top of her cupboard closet.
It can get claustrophobic up there.
There are only about 18 inches of space from the ceiling to the bed.
When she does get claustrophobic, she goes out onto the rooftop.
Around her bed, she has a lot of bins that store her other things, including her clothes.
Her skylight is everything.
One thing she loves about her apartment is the skylight in the middle of the apartment.
It gives her the light she needs but she said she doesn’t really mind the lack of windows as it keeps her productive.
But the first thing she always does in the morning is to go up to the roof for natural sunlight. And in the winter, she relies a lot on sun lamps.
This apartment is not for everyone but Alaina was up for an adventure when she signed the lease.
In fact, it was the reason she stayed. She was thinking of moving to Los Angeles but the appeal of lower rent and more savings made her stay.
She was up for the adventure.
