Husky loses his cool during agility competition but his antics make him a crowd favorite
If you’ve ever taken the time to watch or attend a dog agility competition you know that even the most well-trained animals are still animals at the end of the day – and they can be full of surprises!
Years of training can be forgotten in an instant when instinct kicks in.
That’s what happened when a beautiful Siberian Husky named Lobo participated in a 24-inch agility competition hosted by the Westminster Kennel Club this year. (24 inches refers to the size of the animal between its withers, which is the ridge between the shoulder blades.)
Posted just a few weeks ago, Lobo’s turn on the course has already been viewed over 1.4 million times. And that’s because Lobo had his own ideas about how best to complete the course.
As Lobo and his handler Adam Davis are introduced, the dog looks ready to take on the world – and he is one majestic specimen!
He doesn’t look worried at all about his performance – although he is giving eyes to that cameraman.
And it looks like the camera was just too much to resist. As Lobo makes his first jump, he stalls as it distracts him.
The crowd sighs knowing that a win is no longer within reach now that’s his committed a “fault” AND lost time. But it’s not quitting time just yet – Lobo needs to get back on track and show people what’s he’s got.
And what he’s got is no time for this crap.
“He did pretty much exactly what I expected from a husky. Can he do the course? Of course, no problem. Does he wanna follow the human rules? Nah,” said one understanding commenter.
While Lobo makes a series of impressive jumps, when it’s time to weave in and out of the poles, he takes his sweet time. And the audience and commentators can’t hold in their laughter as he saunters through without a care in the world.
He gets bored before he even finishes and bolts across the field.
This is Lobo saying “Smell ya later, obstacle course” in not so many words:
It’s all about the timing, by the way, so each wasted second is bad for his score (of which he clearly cares nothing about).
The commentators do a great job of adding some levity to Lobo’s fail. He’s not going home with a prize, but he is going home with everyone’s hearts!
It’s clear that the dog can complete all of the obstacles, but these competitions are also about demonstrating obedience and concentration. We have no doubt that on an average day Lobo can master both – but this day was not a typical day.
15 faults seems like a bad score – and Lobo has already exceeded the time to beat. But he does not care.
In fact, 15 faults is nothing – he can do worse!
He even stops on the see-saw because he’s so over it all.
Husky owners were not even remotely surprised by the display:
“One of the fastest and most durable dog breeds in the world, also the most stubborn form of life since the dawn of time,” joked one commenter.
But he can also really rock some of those challenges when he wants to!
When he’s finally done with the course, he’s panting a bit but generally unimpressed with being in the limelight.
His score is certainly proof of that!
In the end, Lobo likely came in last with his comic showing. But as the commentators say, he was no doubt the crowd favorite!
