Teacher acts fast when little girl says she's 'starving' during virtual class

Life is tough. We all know that, but since last year, because of the pandemic, life became more challenging.

Many people lost their jobs, many students had to stop school, and even if you wanted to work multiple jobs a day, it won’t be possible. Even those stable companies before had to close because of the economic crisis brought to us by Covid-19.

Just a few weeks ago, a young girl who was just 9 years old made a heart-wrenching confession to her teacher and classmates.

The teacher saw how the little girl struggled to keep up with the entire class and that she started crying. It was too obvious so the teacher decided to ask what was wrong, and that was when the little girl admitted why she was crying.

She said she was starving.

It was a very sad moment. At a very young age, this little was crying because of the pain that she felt in her tummy. She was starving.

Can you imagine how painful this is?

Aside from this, she also mentioned that her mother lost her job. The teacher knew that she had to help this little girl.

“When asked what was wrong, she confessed in front of her entire class that she was starving. It’s just all so heart-wrenching and frankly, very very courageous of this little girl,” Linda Kellner shared with TODAY.

Linda is the director of external affairs for Fulfill, a New Jersey-based local food bank. She said that they were made aware of the child’s situation when they received a call from the school district. The social worker explained that the young girl wasn’t able to concentrate on her studies and that she was uncontrollably crying because she was starving.

They also learned what happened to the girl’s family. According to the social worker, the girl’s mother lost her job due to the pandemic crisis.

This only meant one thing – the girl’s whole family had been struggling for a long time.

Fulfill didn’t waste any time! They started planning and immediately took action! They started by providing the girl’s family with their daily necessities such as food, groceries, personal care items, and even grocery store gift cards.

Aside from that, Fulfill also helped the girl’s mom to sign up for food stamps and healthcare. They also got hot meals for the whole family every day.

That’s not all. Fulfill wasn’t done yet.

They were also to help the girl’s mom land a new job as a dishwasher. They also offered her employment opportunities that will help her enhance her skills.

Since the girl’s story went viral, people started asking if her mom still needed a job. Many people called in and offered her work. Aside from this, the local food bank started receiving thousands of donations!

In the end, not only were they able to help the girl and her family, but they were also able to save some to help other families in need as well.

Ever since the pandemic started, food banks and non-profit groups had seen a tremendous rise in their food demand. Many people needed their help and many are still waiting. According to Linda Kellner, they are now catering to over 215,000 people of which 70,000 are children. This is for Jersey Shore alone!

Can you imagine how many families are starving and are struggling to survive?

How many children are crying because they don’t have a warm meal?

“Think of being this 9-year-old little girl so consumed by hunger that you can’t think about reading, math or writing,” she said to Positive Outlooks. “All you’re thinking about is that pain in your stomach. That really is what keeps me up at night.”
