Is the coronavirus really getting to you? You’re not alone (except physically.) This talented musician has really captured how everyone cooped up at home feels.

Haircuts. Eating in restaurants. Sitting in movie theaters. Meeting up with friends. These were things that we never knew we were lucky to experience.

Most people across the world have spent at least half of the year so far under some form of coronavirus lockdown. At first, it was scary. Then we got used to it. Now, we’re looking forward to the return of a semblance of normality.

We’re all going through a range of emotions over the time we’ve spent cooped up. One musician has used his talent to express those emotions through reinterpreting a classic song.

Since the 1960s, The Sounds of Silence has captivated people. It’s a timeless song. But The Kiffness knew that while the instrumentation is perfect for the present situation, the lyrics could use a little updating.

And so he got to work on an amazing parody of the Simon & Garfunkel classic.

The Kiffness then recorded a video of his old/new song. And it’s a mixture of funny and tragic.

The video begins with the musician’s face shown twice on either side of the screen. One version of him is seethrough.

The opening notes play. “Will this lockdown ever end?” The Kiffness sings. “I’ve got itchy feet again.”

Then the lyrics go on to explain how he couldn’t help himself from, “sneaking out in silence,” while his wife was asleep.

After that, the lyrics explain how, as he was walking back home, he heard, “the sound of sirens.” After that, he goes on to explain how the police pinned him to the ground and ignored his pleas for help.

“My excuses like raindrops fell. A jail cell is where I was headed, with sirens,” he continues.

Lastly, the lyrics go on to explain how the singer didn’t have the guts to call his wife, as he had not done the laundry as promised. The song ends with him sitting in his cell in silence.

The Kiffness then uploaded this video onto his YouTube channel. It soon became very popular. To date it has gained over 750,000 views. It also has more than 21,000 likes and 1,200 comments. People have been saying things like this:

The musician released this song in April, over a month before the riots broke out across America.

But it’s hard to listen to those lyrics today without feeling that they’re eerily predictive of what’s currently happening in America. Was the pandemic always going to lead to such a terrible sequence of events? It’s easy to think so considering the content of these lyrics.

The Kiffness has many other videos. Most recently, he released a parody of the Abba song Dancing Queen, named Quaranqueen.

This song is much lighter. It recounts the quarantine experiences of a lady named Colleen, who is losing her mind in lockdown. (Yes, that sounds grim, but the execution is light-hearted.)

Hopefully, coronavirus will never strike as hard again. And hopefully, America learns lessons about what is currently happening on the streets. Until then, we have The Kiffness and others to bring smiles to our faces, even though things are dark.
