Couple takes lonely bunny to shelter to find wife and he experiences ‘love at first sight’
For most of us, spending some time alone at home, or a solo vacation, or just going shopping alone is something we need from time to time.
This way, we kind of take time to reflect on stuff and enjoy some moments of peace without having to talk to anyone or address anyone else’s needs.
However, as much as we need this alone time, soon we get tired of being by ourselves and we want some kind of company.
This could be a friend, a life partner, or our children, but we usually feel happier when other people are around.
โHuman beings are an ultra-social species โ and our nervous systems expect to have others around us,โ Emiliana Simon-Thomas, PhD, Science Director of the Greater Good Science Center at The University of California, Berkeley, told NBC News BETTER.
And it seems it’s not only humans who need other people’s company to feel happier, but this applies to animals, as well.
Recently, a bunny who lives with his human family in the Netherlands was taken to a local shelter by his parents so he could try speed dating and find a wife.
Yes, you read that correctly. Bux the giant bunny had been looking for a wife for a while.
When his human parents, Samira and Ben, brought him home, they were both working as chefs and this meant that Bux had to stay at home with no company for more than 12 hours a day.
And, while he seemed to be fine with that at first, soon his mom realized that he was getting bored and tired of not having someone to play with during all those hours.
“We felt sorry for him when we left,” Samira told GeoBeats Animals, “because he would be alone all day.”
Indeed, when they returned home Bux was right behind the door waiting for them.
That’s what made them decide to go find him a wife.
So, they took him to a local shelter and had him speed dating until he found the best companion.
They were lucky to be allowed to let Bux in different cages until he found “the one”.
The giant bunny tried hanging out with many different bunnies before he found Ginny. It just looked like love at first sight.

Ginny and Bux simply clicked together, and it felt as if they were meant to be together.
Samira and her husband knew that they had to take Ginny home.
Indeed, they adopted the second giant Flemish bunny, and now Bux has his wife to play with while their humans are away from home.

Bux loves back scratches and bananas, and he enjoys being around people, while Ginny will eat anything left on the floor, including her mama’s toes, and she’s more of an introvert.
As Samira explained, the bunnies have both been spayed/neutered, so they won’t be having any babies, although they would make adorable babies for sure.
