Lonesome truck driver takes in a scared up stray cat that pieces his heart back together
Paul Robertson loved his job as a long-distance truck driver.
Aside from being good at his work, he is also passionate about photography.
For years, Paul would fulfill every task, driving for long hours, but sometimes, it gets lonely too.
That’s when Paul adopted a cat.
He named him Howie, and they became best friends.
Howie loved to travel, and they just clicked.
Paul couldn’t be happier.
Until one day, five years ago, Howie passed away.
This devastated Paul. He would drive and tear up whenever he remembers his best friend.
The trips became longer and uneventful, and he felt lost.
That’s when he decided to adopt another cat.
So Paul went to an animal rescue shelter, and the staff introduced a ginger cat they call Percy.
Paul knew Percy was the one for him.
He knew the moment he saw those scars, a torn ear, and even a missing tooth.
Percy needed a home.
Percy’s missing ear and scars were the painful memory of a hard life.
He was a stray before the rescue center staff found him.
You’d think that Percy would be aloof and aggressive, but he was the exact opposite.
He was sweet and very loving.
As soon as Paul took him, they bonded immediately.
Percy became Paul’s co-driver, a companion that made every trip fun.
He was also very sweet and would often sit on Paul’s lap.
Paul’s favorite is when Percy would give him a cheek rub.
Paul, who also takes jobs as a photographer, loves to take photos of Percy and him.
He would then share their adorable photos on his Facebook account.
Soon, his followers grew, and many started sharing their lovely partnership.
Last February 2017, Paul learned a hard lesson that gave him one of the worse scares that he ever had.
He decided to take a truck stop in Ohio and rest.
The next morning, Paul woke up and was wondering why no Percy was clinging to him.
He looked and saw that the passenger window was down.
His heart pounded. He knew what happened to Percy.
Paul went out and called for his best buddy, there was no Percy.
He even searched the nearby area to see if the cat had wandered there, but again, there was no cat in sight.
He was so worried especially after knowing that a storm was coming and he had deadlines to fulfill.
His last hope? To post his concern on Facebook. He had lots of followers, and maybe, they could help.
Paul went on his way with a heavy heart.
He had to fulfill his duties and he had so many pending deliveries.
For the truck driver, it felt like he was leaving his beloved child alone.
It was heart-wrenching.
After making 2 deliveries and 400 miles later, something unexpected happened.
He turned around and heard a familiar sound.
It was Percy.
Under his truck, an oil-covered Percy went out and greeted him. It was a miracle!
Percy looked shaken, tired, and hungry, but aside from the oil, he was healthy.
After that, Paul promised himself to keep a close eye on his best friend.
They have been together for five years and counting more memories together.
