Woman doesn’t want to give up her long hair during a makeover – but she gets the chop anyway
“Very nervous” is how a woman named Sherry described herself before her makeover with Christopher Hopkins (aka The Makeover Guy).
Traveling to his appearance studio in Minneapolis, Minnesota from Livonia, Michigan (a suburb of Detroit), she had signed herself up for a dramatic transformation but appeared to be getting cold feet.
And we get it – big changes are hard. (They’re also expensive, so it’s worth going through with it if you’ve already made it as far as Sherry has!)
When she came in, she admitted to having roughly the same hairstyle since she was a junior in high school – and now she’s 52!
But her big concern was losing length.
Sherry made the point that very short hair might make her look overweight, something she wanted to avoid and blamed on her high cheekbones and other facial features.
But Hopkins countered that she had a lovely face and neckline and that it would be much easier to see without all that hair in her face.
In fact, he suggested that if her concern was looking “fat,” she might benefit from getting rid of some hair and showing off those features. Covering them up isn’t doing her any favors!
She looks a little emotional when she realizes some hair might come off, but Hopkins distracts her by moving on to talking about color.
The great thing about Sherry’s video is that it’s a big longer than the normal Makeover Guy “before” and “after” reveal, so we get to see a bit more of the process and hear the questions being asked of the client.
As for Sherry, she said she’s feeling old and needs a change. Of course, to fully do that, Hopkins says she should say goodbye to those locks (though he tells her she can have whatever she wants in the end).
But why fly in for just a trim when you have a great opportunity like this?
Depending on the level of makeover a client gets, they can pay anywhere between $500 and $900 for their service, so it’s worth it to let the professionals do their work. It’s just hair, it grows back anyway.
So Sherry decides to go for it.
And whoa does he grab those scissors fast and take a big chunk of hair! All Sherry can do is laugh because she’s a little shocked.
But things go well after that. The hard part is over.
And once we see Sherry with her new, shoulder-length bob, it’s clear that getting rid of some of that damaged, bleached hair was a good decision. (And she can always grow it out if she misses the length.)
As for the color, they try out some swatches so they can find a blond that doesn’t wash out her complexion. Luckily, they can both agree on a beautiful neutral color that looks great and brings more attention to her youthful features.
While some commenters argued that the natural curls that came out after Sherry’s haircut – which you can only see while she’s getting her makeup done – look better than the straightened final result, she always has the option to style her hair however she wants at home.
Her makeup is simple but glam, with some bronzer and a neutral palette.
It doesn’t take much else than that since her bone structure and skin are so great, so while she still looks like herself, the final photo makes it look like she went back in time at least a decade!
Make sure you scroll down to see the “after” photos – both curly and straight!
