Couple that hasn’t had a haircut in decades get a bold, new makeover look

Charles and Michelle from Wanaque, New Jersey are a couple in their 50s who hadn’t had haircuts in decades.

Neither had been avoiding the salon, necessarily – they simply didn’t think about it and eventually just got stuck in a rut. The couple both felt they needed new looks from top to bottom.

Like most teens, their 17-year-old daughter wanted to see a change in her parents too and was happy to accompany them as they volunteered themselves for makeovers on the Rachel Ray Show.

Charles, 58, is a former rocker who played in bands in the 80s and 90s and never lost the look. Now he has a job where he deals with people on the corporate level quite a bit and agreed that he should start looking the part.

His hair is beautiful and grows extremely fast, so he’s donated it in the past and was going to give away the longest chunk yet to Locks of Love after the show.

Meanwhile, 50-year-old Michelle hadn’t seen a stylist in 21 years. Her hair isn’t quite as long (we’re assuming she’s trimmed it herself a few times) but her job as a lunch lady means she has it pulled back all day and doesn’t give it much thought most of the time.

Michelle also realized she needed a makeover, not because of any outside influence, but because she wanted to give off the youthful vibe that she still feels. The mom said she felt frumpy compared to the rest of her “glamorous” friends.

“I want to kind of look how I feel. I feel like a young, fun, casual mom and that’s what I want to look like,” she said in a pre-makeover interview.

Stylist Tabatha Coffey – who once had a show on Bravo called “Tabatha’s Salon Takeover” – was in charge of the transformations.

Her first order of business? To lop off Charles’ hair, of course.

And with hair like that, you know the audience wants to see it, so they did the big chop live on stage.

After sectioning off his hair into four ponytails, host Rachel Ray took the first snip and Charles was left with a bob.

While he was ready for a drastic makeover, he was also happy to play along with the drama of it all.

After their transformations, the duo was placed back to back on the stage as their daughter was brought up for the big reveal. The audience cheered and the teenager freaked out as she saw her parents’ profiles.

Then, the sweet couple first turned to one another and admired each other’s new look. They did a little happy dance and then waltzed out to the audience looking decades younger.

“They look fabulous,” exclaimed their daughter as she shook her head in disbelief.

More importantly, the couple loved their new looks.

“He looks so awesome. I look awesome,” Michelle said, striking a little pose.

It’s amazing what a makeover can do for one’s self-esteem!
