Faithful dog runs up to garbage man to asking for help after owner takes a fall
It was eleven years ago when Gwendola Johnson saw a stray dog. She immediately felt a connection to the young pup, and she brought him home.
Gwendola named her new dog Sandy.
Sandy was so happy to have finally found his forever home, and he showed his love for Gwendola every day. He never left her side, and he made sure that the old woman was safe and happy.
But we all know that accidents happen, right?
It was the usual day for Gwendola. She went out the door and then suddenly, she tripped on something, and she fell. Gwendola was lucky that she wasn’t injured, but she did have one problem – she couldn’t get up.
Even though she wanted to yell for help, her home was located on a steep hill. No one would hear her cries if she did yell for help. She lay helpless on the floor.
Sandy, her faithful dog, went to her and stayed with her. She remained calm because of his presence.
Just then, Gwendola heard something familiar! It was the garbage truck down the street! It was her only chance to ask for help.
“When the sanitation worker walked up the driveway, Sandy saw him,” she recalled in her interview with NBCLA. “I said, ‘Go get him!’”
Sandy did not waste any time!
The smart dog ran and met up with the sanitation worker just in time. Everything was caught on by Gwendola’s ring doorbell cam.
In the clear footage, you would see Sandy running and alerting the sanitation worker while he was dragging her trash bins.
Kirk White, the sanitation worker, is our second hero in this story.
He saw Sandy acting all strange, and he knew there was something wrong. He immediately stopped what he was doing and decided to follow the dog.
“The way he was barking, like ‘I have something to show you — come follow me this way…there’s something I want you to see,’” White explained how he saw Sandy.
White ran after Sandy, and there he saw the poor old woman on the ground. He immediately helped Gwendola up and made sure that she was okay. He didn’t know how many hours the old woman stayed in that position.
“She was on the floor, unable to get up,” White told in an interview with KTLA 5. “I know it was very hot that Friday… seeing someone in the sun, that wasn’t right at all.”
White added that he already got a feeling that something wasn’t right with this quiet home when he arrived. According to the kind sanitation worker, he would often see the adorable dog sitting outside. So when he didn’t see Sandy on his usual spot, he felt something wrong. That’s when he saw Sandy running towards him.
Soon, Gwendola’s granddaughter, Cheryl Malvar, came to check on her grandmother. When she saw the video, she felt really emotional.
“We all cried when we saw the video. Sandy did a good job,” she recalled. She felt grateful for the two heroes that helped her grandma.
“Kirk actually made an effort. Not everybody does. He investigated and he was aware enough to know it was off,” Cheryl Malvar said. “We love him. He’ll always have friends here.”
True enough, without these two heroes, we can’t imagine what could have happened to the poor old woman.
Gwendola is doing great, as usual, but she has something to say about her beloved companion.
“He’s a good dog — he’s always a good dog,” Gwendola said smiling, proud of her best friend, Sandy.
