'Chill' mailman encounters intimidating barking dog and starts hilarious conversation

When the mailman comes knockin’, there’s probably a grumpy doggy barkin’!

History has always led us to believe that canines and mailmen have been public enemies since the very first time a letter carrier dared to step into doggo-territory.

But one very laid-back U.S. Postal Service employee is proving otherwise.

Veterinarian Mark D. Freeman told Reader’s Digest that a dog sees their home as their personal territory.

Anytime they hear a stranger’s footsteps approach, dogs will instinctively react to protect the people and property they’ve laid claim to.

“Dogs have an inherent need to defend their territory from intruders,” Freeman said.

Dogs may be equally perturbed by mail carriers on the street, especially if they feel an intruder is encroaching on their personal space.

“The dog will react to the familiar smells and assume the carrier is the same threat they experience at home,” noted Freeman.

Animal expert Libby Brittain, also added, “Ruling out that your dog is in pain, it’s safe to assume that the aggression expressed toward the mailperson is out of fear.”

Homeowners can also acclimate their pup to daily visits from letter carriers.

“Think of how you’ve introduced your dog to other people so that they associate them as friends and apply that if possible to establishing a relationship with your postman,” Brittain said.

So, what’s a mailman to do when an aggressive or frightened doggy starts yapping?

Sometimes all you need is a soothing voice and some well-timed compliments to alleviate any fears.

However, when this mailman says, “Well, hi, beautiful,” it seems to incite Hulk, the resident floof at this home, to keep barking even more.

In a series of video clips captured by the homeowner’s Ring camera, we can see this friendly mailman laying it on thick with verbal love and kisses.

But calling Hulk a “big guy” just seems to reaffirm in the dog’s mind that, yes, he’s the big man on campus and this mailman needs to go the heck away!

But that doesn’t stop this happy postal service worker from carrying on the one-sided conversation.

He even makes sure to say the proper goodbyes when they’re done talking.

When the mailman says, “I’ll see you tomorrow,” it lets Hulk know that they should expect to do the same cordial song and dance the next day.

In one clip, we can see the mailman make polite conversation with Hulk through the door.

He makes clever quips like, “Hey, I know. Don’t jump on the window. We’ll get in trouble, we can’t talk no more then.”

Samantha, Hulk’s owner, says that he’s “the laziest dog… ever” and “a constant cuddler.” You certainly wouldn’t know that by the way he barks!

That doesn’t stop her mailman from having a soft spot for the big guy. “He told me he loves my beautiful dog.”

Their adorable conversations whenever he stops by to drop off the mail are almost legendary!
