Dogs are very loving creatures and won’t hesitate to comfort someone, even strangers. It’s almost as if they magically know when someone needs comfort or needs a friend. Usually, all it takes is a nuzzle, maybe a few licks, and in at least one case, a hug, to make a person feel better. One dog has proven that everybody can be your friend, even the mailman.

Moose has a special friend

Moose is an adorable two-year-old golden retriever from Grand Rapids, Michigan. He lives with his mom and dad who he loves very much. Moose also has another person he has started to look forward to seeing every day — his mailman. Moose, who has over 21,000 followers on Instagram, was captured in a cute interaction with the mailman on the family’s security camera.

A real bromance

The bromance started when a new mailman was assigned to Moose’s route. His mom, Meghan Gruszynski, posted a video to Moose’s Instagram page, showing the mailman and moose’s daily routine. The whole interaction is as sweet as can be.

Moose greets his mailman every day

As the time for the mailman to arrive approaches, Moose goes and sits at the top of his driveway to wait patiently for his friend to get there. As the mailman walks up the driveway, after outing the mail in the box, Moose gives him a short greeting before sniffing around his feet a few times, all while happily wagging his tail.

Moose and the mailman like to hug it out

Then Moose jumps up to give his friend a short greeting, until finally, after getting down and jumping back up again, the two hug it out. This is followed by some ear scratches before Moose lays down on the ground for some relaxing pets and shoulder rubs. Then the mailman heads back to his truck … a mailman’s job is pretty busy after all.

“It was adorable,” Gruszynski told The Dodo. “I loved how much he loved our boy and loved how much Moose loved saying hi to him.”

Moose’s mom records the two’s sweet interactions

After noticing the sweet daily exchange between the two, Gruszynski knew she needed to record some of them. She also talked to the mailman to find out why he was so happy to greet Moose every day. And while he is clearly a dog lover, there was another reason behind his love for Moose.

“I’ve come to find out our mailman’s dog recently passed away,” she said. “He loves how much love Moose gives him every time he is out on his route.”

A special Valentine’s Day gift for Moose

Gruszynski has recorded a few of the duo’s hugging sessions. The mailman greets Moose rain, snow, or shine. In one especially adorable meeting, the mailman brought Moose a valentine for Valentine’s Day. The mailman also brought some signs to show to the camera to let everyone know how much he appreciated them.
