Stray mama cat brings sick kitten to the hospital to ask doctors for help
Somehow, this mother knew that her baby could find help in this location. They were incredibly lucky.
Emergency rooms across the world save countless people every year. The hard-working medical professionals try their best for any patient.
The emergency room in this story has even treated a non-human patient.
It was like any other day in an Istanbul emergency room. Then a cat walked in clutching a kitten in her mouth. The kitten was visibly ill.
Both of the cats were strays.
Soon, paramedics rushed to the cats’ aid. They looked over the baby and the mother and determined that they may be able to help.
The paramedics then took the kitten in to be examined by a doctor. The mother cat followed, hoping that her baby would get the help she needed.
One of the workers at the hospital gave the mother a bowl of milk and some food.
After a check up, the doctors determined that the kitten just needed some food. But they then drove the animals to a vet just to be safe.
The vet concluded that both the mother and the kitten were healthy. They then found a shelter that could take the animals in. They are now both safe and waiting for forever homes.
One of the hospital’s staff members, Merve Ozcan, then posted about the cat and her kitten on Twitter. People all over the world have reacted to the story. Ozcan’s tweets have gained over 100,000 likes, more than 10,000 retweets and hundreds of comments.
The cat and kitten in this story were very lucky. The Turkish people have long had a love of cats. However, the capital city, Istanbul, has an excessive stray cat problem.
The government is doing little to help them. But the people of the city do what they can to help the cats out.
For instance, every winter homemade cat houses appear all over Istanbul, which provide much-needed shelter from the harsh weather.
These cat houses mostly look like large dollhouses that can fit three or four cats at a single time. But some people make cat houses that are much more elaborate.
Some Istanbul residents have even gone as far as to open religious buildings to stray cats in wintertime.
For instance, one imam opens the doors of his mosque to the stray cats in his neighborhood whenever the weather gets cold.
The imam of one mosque, Hafiz Mustafa Efe Resmi Hesabi, even became a social media sensation thanks to his policy of sheltering cats. His Instagram page is filled with content of him petting and caring for the strays that come into his place of worship.
Of course, first and foremost, Turkey’s government should be more proactive in sheltering and neutering its stray cat population.
However, until that happens, the people of its cities will be there for the animals. They will give the cats medical care, shelter, food and anything else that they need.
