Animals can be one of the most amazing things to come into our lives. They can bring joy to our homes, giving us unconditional love and companionship. In return, they depend on us to care for them and shower them with respect. Sadly, however, not everyone treats animals with compassion and warmth. We’ve all heard stories of pets being abandoned and left to fend for themselves.

Roughly a month ago, someone left a five-year-old boxer in the parking lot of North Side Baptist Church in Abilene, Texas. Moreover, the dog was not alone. Abandoned alongside her were her nine 2-week old puppies.

The mama dog was clearly scared and in desperate need of help. Her puppies needed to be saved or they would lose their lives. Luckily, a kindhearted soul decided to rescue these canines from their harsh situation.

When Mistie Boerger of Paw Angel Animal Rescue saw a picture of the mother dog and the puppies online, she instantly knew they needed her help.

“I saw the picture and it just broke my heart and I called Angel and we went and rescued the dogs,” Boerger told KTXS 12abc.

Mistie Boerger and Angel Urban rushed to the parking lot to fetch the dogs. They were placed in the back seat of the car, and the women made sure no one was left behind.

“I just don’t know how someone could do that, leaving momma and two-week-old babies,” said Boerger.

Abandoning animals is no doubt a disturbing and heartless act. The person that left them in the parking lot didn’t even bother to take them to a shelter, which would have no doubt been a safer haven. Leaving the mother dog with her puppies alone made them vulnerable to all sorts of dangers and problems. No animal deserves to be treated with cruelty. In fact, animal abandonment is considered a felony in many states in the USA.

It is not surprising that the mother dog was in need of medical care upon rescue. Likewise, one of her puppies was also found to have a tumor in his throat that was beyond help. There was no other choice but to euthanize the little pup.

After a few days in a temporary foster home, the mother and the surviving puppies were all healthy and happy. Mistie decided to foster them for a while longer until they could fully recover and go to their forever homes.

“They will be staying with me for two weeks and then be moved to a permanent foster. They will placed for adoption after they have been spayed and neutered and mom is spayed,” she wrote on Facebook.

The staff calculated the cost of food and other supplies the rescues needed, which amounted to a hefty $2,500. Donations were solicited in order to cover the expenses.

“It’s looking like the total cost to get all ten dogs all the way to September and adoption will be around 2500,” Robert Sudbury, another staff member commented on the Facebook post.

Donations of more than $1,000 were received, but more money may be needed in case medical complications arise – which happens pretty often with rescue animals.

Updates and pictures of the nine dogs have been constantly posted on Facebook by the rescue staff, attracting the attention of many fans. People are generously praising the Paw Angel staff for their hard work and all that they do for the animals.

“Mistie Boerger you are my hero. Poor babies and mom,” someone wrote.

Anyone who rescues an abandoned or struggling animal is definitely a hero and deserves all the praise in the world.

It is so great to see a happy ending for this abandoned mama dog and her eight puppies. We know that they are in a great place and will soon be heading off to their forever homes.
