Mama dog finds perfect way to stop puppies from fighting
One of the biggest challenges of parents is breaking up their kids’ fight. Even when you get right in between them, they’ll still continue smacking at each other. And apparently, this kind of problem is something mama dogs experience, too.
A mama dog went viral for the way she expertly handled her puppies’ fight.
The Labrador Retriever has been carefully observing her puppies since they started playing on a blanket.
Everything was going well at first.
They were playfully wrestling, biting, and punching at each other’s adorable but tiny faces. They seemed to be having an awesome time.
Then, they started playing rough.
At this point, the other puppy has had enough of playing and decided to take a break. The other dog, meanwhile, was just getting warmed up and continued to annoy his sibling.
Then, mama dog had to intervene.
The first thing she did was to correct the offending puppy’s behavior. She nibbled its behind. However, instead of stopping, the puppy simply turned around and barked at her.
Mama dog got more serious.
She just can’t ignore her puppy’s disobedience. She had to show them who’s the boss. So, with a loud voice, she barked right back at the puppies.
The tiny dogs knew they were in trouble.
They knew that their mom was being serious with that kind of bark. They stopped fighting, sat silently, and lightly bowed their heads. It was their sign of obedience.
It was short-lived, however, because the offending puppy started bugging his sibling again right after.
At this point, mama dog gave a last warning. This time, it only took a single bark from her and the playful puppy immediately stopped.
A lot of human moms found mama dog’s reaction quite relatable.
One of them said:
“Good to know that moms yelling at their kids is universal.”
Another one shared:
“The way she was softly biting the puppy in the back was like how my mom would pinch me under the table when i was misbehaving in public.”
Puppy play is different from puppy fighting.
This makes it important that you learn how to read body language and associated behavioral cues – just like mama dog.
Puppies engaged in harmless and happy play are likely to be loose and bouncy. They will move around with big and open mouths. You may see a play bow or hear them growl at each other.
A real puppy fight, on the other hand, comes with different behavioral cues. Instead of being loose, the puppies are stiff and tense. Some are tight-lipped while others will give out a snarl or quiet growl. Their ears are pinned back and flat.
To prevent puppies from fighting and hurting each other, consider getting them outdoors for some puppy social hour. This will provide mental stimulation to keep them from being bored.
Letting your puppies play with other dogs also gives them a chance to grow up as confident and well-adjusted dogs. They’ll learn how to act properly when they are around other puppies. Getting a trainer might help, too. Just make sure that you are getting someone skilled or certified and not just a random person on the street. Provide toys as well. Your puppies can use stuffed toys or balls, too, for aggressive play.
