Down and out mama dog takes in “tiniest orphan” puppy after losing her own
We occasionally ponder how a dog experiencing pregnancy feels.
Are they happy or even aware that they are carrying puppies?
Is it a big surprise to them when they start having their own tiny babies all of a sudden?
Do dog experience pregnancy like people?
Is the mother-child connection instantly there from the get-go?
The thing is, we’ll never know for sure.
However, we’ve come across a narrative that seems to support the idea that dogs are aware of their pregnancies from the moment they begin to grow.
Even before the kids are born.
This story is about a pit bull who was left heartbroken after her pregnancy.
Unfortunately, she lost her entire litter.
And the dog became depressed.
So the rescuers came up with a brilliant solution to help the grieving new mother feel better.
They gave her her very own orphaned dog to care for.
The pit bull quickly returned to her joyful self after finding a purpose in caring for the abandoned puppy.
It was the best of both worlds because the abandoned puppy now had a caring mother to care for her.
It was a fantastic idea.
The story starts with Daya.
Daya the pit bull, who was then pregnant, was found walking the streets of York, South Carolina, in the dead of winter.
Animal control authorities contacted Halfway There Rescue, a nearby animal shelter, who set up for Daya to be fostered so that she could give birth outside of the shelter, in a family setting.
But things turned for the worse.
Fate had a different plan.
The expecting mother endured a difficult pregnancy that necessitated emergency surgery due to difficulties with an infection.
That’s when she lost her litter.
The poor dog was obviously aware that she had lost her litter.
Daya entered a state of mourning, and the staff at the shelter started to worry about her.
However, the staff had this great idea.
Raisin was another abandoned puppy.
She had been discovered stumbling down a road.
She was critically ill, had an injured eye, and needed nothing more than a nurturing mother figure to take care of her
It was a match made in heaven.
The moment the team chose to introduce Daya and Raisin, they clicked.
Daya felt more content and whole, while Raisin had his first-ever sense of safety.
After Daya’s maternal needs were satisfied by raising Raisin till she was fully grown and past the weaning stage, the foster family who had chosen to adopt her welcomed her into their home.
Everything fell into place for both dogs.
Raisin also had a happy ending since the foster family that had taken her in adopted her.
She now gets along beautifully with her younger brother, which is all due to Daya’s excellent parenting.
What a fantastic, pleasant ending for all parties concerned.
Daya and Raisin helped each other out when they needed it, and today they are both living lovely, content lives in forever homes.
