Man adopts 45 unwanted dogs – watch their daily run onto the property they now call home

Mark Starmer is a “dogaholic.”

He also believes he can hear and speak to angels that sometimes use dogs as avatars.

As a result of his “discovery” two decades ago, he and his wife have started a sanctuary for unwanted dogs in British Colombia:

“Some Dogs Are Angels is now an organization dedicated to the rescue of Avatars that have found themselves cast aside, often by those they came to help in the first place.”

The family has a few dozen dogs living with them at any given time – and once they got to 46, they had to move from their home in Alberta out to something more rural so the dogs could have enough room.

“We weren’t aware of any restrictions on how many dogs we could have,” he said of complaints about the number of dogs made when they lived in a residential area. “We were told that either the dogs had to go or we did. There was no contest.”

The dogs live indoors, but of course get outdoor playtime and potty breaks as well.

And it’s quite a sight to let over 40 dogs out at the same time – even if they are little “angels.”

The couple has a 4-acre custom-built enclosure so that they can run and play but always be found.

In a video that has gone viral on a number of sites, Starmer recorded them being let out of the main gate and into the pen one day – and we have to say, it’s an overwhelming sight!

As 45 dogs come rushing out, many of them give Starmer a close pass, nearly knocking him over.

Having so many dogs means life is pretty unique in the Starmer household, but they don’t mind.

“We know it’s very unusual but we’re not concerned if people think we’re a little weird. The dogs are loved, cared for and blissfully happy,” Starmer told Metro UK back in in 2016.

The dogs aren’t up for adoption either – they all belong to the couple for good. They’re in their forever home.

The couple has had to cut back on expenses for themselves and eliminate luxuries like vacations in order to pay for the dogs, but they wouldn’t have it any other way.

Seeing those smiling faces is enough for them.

“We never take holidays or go away now because we simply can’t leave the dogs,” he said. “We miss them and they miss us.”

Talk about a commitment!
