Man spends 30 years converting little apartment into 'replica' of Palace of Versailles

Some people have a vision of what their dream home looks like. Some want a beautiful lake house with a scenic view and others want a beach bungalow on the ocean. Adrian Reeman, however, has a different vision.

Adrian Reeman has spent the last 30 years working on something pretty incredible.

Reeman is a 67-year-old chef in the Merchant Navy. He and his wife have lived in their Southampton apartment for 30 years and havenā€™t spent that time idly! Over time, Reeman has converted their two-bedroom apartment into a replica of a famous landmark, the Palace of Versailles.

The Palace of Versailles is a world-famous landmark that was built outside of Paris, France.

Being built in the 17th century, the incredible building was the residence of Louis XIV starting in 1682. It was the primary residence of French royalty until the French Revolution in 1789. With no expenses barred, this beautiful place has a floor plan over 700,000 square feet!

With a slightly smaller space, Reeman has created his own ā€œPalaceā€ at home.

Reeman is incredibly happy with how his space turned out. Every aspect of the apartment has been converted to mimic the real deal.

ā€œIā€™ve got my own palaceā€” just on a much smaller scale.ā€

Having no prior experience, he slowly learned the skills and implemented them into the final construction.

This project started out as just a hobby for Reeman. Working on the apartment in-between jobs, he never knew that it would become his obsession. Telling The Telegraph:

ā€œOnce I started I knew that I couldnā€™t stop until I finishedā€” at some points, I actually wished I hadnā€™t started.ā€

Through some creative maneuvering, the entire project has only cost Reeman a few hundred pounds.

Over the 30 years, you could imagine how the costs could begin to seriously add up. Getting most of his materials through second-hand shops, scraps, and charities has been the key to his success.

ā€œI picked up bits and pieces from charity shops and immediately I could visualize where it was going to go. But I wanted a really high level of detail so I had to buy some special materials to give me the right look. ā€œ

Adrian is currently working to remodel the bathroom!

Desiring only the fanciest of commodes, Reeman has begun work on his bathroom for his next project. His point of focus is currently the toilet itself!

ā€œIā€™m currently working to make the toilet look like itā€™s made of marble. Itā€™s only a small lavatory, and you can barely turn around in it, but that doesnā€™t mean you cannot make it look grand.ā€

A risky endeavor.

One of the craziest things about the project is that if Adrian and his wife ever decide to leave, they have to undergo the process of reconverting the entire apartment! They would need to strip the entire thing and turn it back into a regular olā€™ two-bedroom.
