Man uses downtime during quarantine to build a tiny restaurant for animals in his yard

This lockdown has people really thinking outside the box, the sheer boredom has made way for projects that never would have seen the light of day without the pandemic. Like this restaurant for squirrels that a man from Detroit, Michigan, built. I promise this is like nothing you’ve ever seen before.

Maison de Noix(The Nut House) was built by James Vreeland, an animal lover from Detroit who had Ample time on his hands

The restaurant for squirrels was created by Vreeland during the Coronavirus lockdowns, in order to give the squirrels a comfortable place to eat and to make light of the situation.

“Figured now was as good a time as any to get into the restaurant game. Anyone know how to get ahold of @gewhitmerfor a variance to keep our patio open?” Vreeland writes on Instagram.

The menu includes 4 items for the squirrels to enjoy

Since opening, the business has been booming for the tiny eatery! Their menu consists of four items, including mixed seed trio, stale bread/pizza crust, raw peanuts, and, counter softened apples.

With a menu like that, it’s no wonder Vreeland’s restaurant has been packed since opening day.

Upon walking up to the popular restaurant for squirrels, there’s a beautiful entryway

Vreeland really went all out on this restaurant for the squirrels, there’s a gorgeous wood entrance that opens up to the rest of the handcrafted diner.

“We’ve been offering an opening course of a seed medley, followed by peanuts on the full shell, house-cut breadsticks, and a dessert of counter-softened apples,” Jame told a media outlet.

Once the squirrels get inside, there are four handmade tables that are surrounded by a custom wood fence

With how busy it’s been, he might need to think about expanding soon to accommodate the growing squirrel clientele that frequent the Maison de Noix. Right now there’s four tables that the squirrels can perch on to enjoy their breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

The Maison de Noix is incased by wood fencing, to prevent any squirrels that are thinking about dining and dashing.

Vreeland even made a tiny host stand, menu, and found little squirrel statues for decor

The Maison de Noix is the first of it’s kind and is also popular amongst the humans walking by. People get intrigued when walking by, many stopping to ask if they can take pictures of the restaurant for squirrels.

“The response from humans has been pretty great with people stopping all the time to take a photo or watch the frenzy,” said Vreeland.

The Maison de Noix has also been quite the hit on social media

Vreeland put a time-lapse video on Instagram, that shows how a day’s business is at “The Nut House.” He put another video on Facebook, that shows just how fast the squirrels rush in to dine at Maison de Noix.

Turns out, squirrels are a rowdy bunch, they hop the fence, knock the statue over, and flip the tables upside down while getting a bite at the Maison de Noix.

This is totally hilarious, he really put some hard work into this mini diner for the squirrels in his neighborhood. I’d imagine the restaurant will stay packed as long as there is food for the little rascals. To see the squirrels having brunch at the Maison de Noix, watch the video below!
