Man builds such an amazing tower for his cats that people beg him to sell the instructions
Rob Coutu lives in Windsor, Connecticut with two very spoiled cats – a red tabby, and the REAL prince of the house, a Savannah cat. In fact, people are so enamored of the “kitty towers” he made for his fancy felines that they simply won’t stop bombarding him with questions about trying to construct their own.
Coutu has worked in architecture and design for almost 20 years and is a specialist in the computer-aided design software better known as CAD. So let’s just say he knows a thing or two about managing a building project from start to finish.
But cats are tough clients. Frankly, they’d be just as happy to jump into a cardboard box as they would be to use a well-designed and aesthetically pleasing structure. More than one cat owner has learned this the hard way.
Still, what Coutu did to build his Savannah cat (which is a cross between the wild African cat known as the serval and a domestic cat) a proper play area is truly amazing. (Ok, technically it began as a project for both cats, but it belongs to the wild one now.)
Coutu adopted Zachary – better known as Zach – in August of 2018. And this majestic creature is clearly at the center of his world as well as his ambitious design. After all, a half-wild cat needs a bit of extra stimulus if it’s going to live in Connecticut!
The project, “Zach Towers,” is so impressive that people can’t stop imagining one in their own home.
Coutu now has an entire Facebook page devoted to the elaborate project, which began in mid-2019.
His first post was a CAD rendering of the Kitty Towers along with a caption:
“In the beginning my Savannah cat, Zach had the desire for a tall structure, so I designed him one, then went on to build it for him. Follow to see the progress.”
Here’s what it was expected to look like:
Cool, right?
Well, it’s even better in real life!
Construction began in earnest about a year ago and, from the beginning, it was one seriously impressive gesture towards a furry feline friend.
Of course, that doesn’t mean Zach didn’t lend a helping paw in the construction – after all, does any cat let a project go unassisted?
As the towers took shape, Zach quickly took over and banned his red tabby housemate from “Zach Towers.”
The final product spans the entire living room and is connected by the footbridge that Zach immediately claimed for himself in a very “You shall not pass” kind of way.
Balconies, deck landings, and even landscaping were all added to fully amuse Zach.
The details on the towers are incredible, so it’s no surprise that people are begging to know how much Coutu wants to build custom towers. (He won’t be taking orders until after the Covid-19 pandemic has died down.)
Don’t think for a second that Zach doesn’t appreciate the little things, like his window boxes full of flowers!
Very occasionally, Zach even lets his roomie into Chateau Zach.
Coutu told Bored Panda that material cost for the project is $3,500 and counting – and that’s not including his valuable time. But it has all been worth it to see his furbaby enjoy tbe towers.
“Zach has been very involved from the start. I can’t even find a word that best describes how much he loves it and how much he uses it.”
Frankly, we’re ready to move in as well!
On April 5th, Coutu posted an update, saying he could begin making custom towers for clients once he figures out the legal stuff. But they would start at $5,800, so you better have once SERIOUSLY hard-to-please cat (or human design fiend) in your house.
You can scroll down below to see Zach cross the bridge on his own for the first time.
What a lucky cat!
