Man goes out of way to get dog who spent 500 days in shelter adopted by buying billboard ad
A shelter dog named Sally Sue from Kansas City is closer to a new forever home thanks in part to a giant billboard with her face on it.
The pit bull is an 11-year-old sweetheart who’s sadly spent over 500 days in a shelter.
Scott Poore is a local business owner who is always up for doing what he can to help animals in need.
He once raised awareness for shelter animals by sleeping in a shelter himself and posting about it online. In this story, Poore put up the money needed to purchase a billboard in the hopes of finding someone to adopt Sally Sue.

“Hello, my name is Sally Sue,” the billboard reads. “Will you adopt me?”

Poore says he’s been working on getting a permanent billboard to help raise awareness for shelter animals.
He hopes it will help reach people who are not active on social media.
“About five years I’ve been working on getting a permanent billboard,” Poore said to KMBC 9 News.
Why a billboard?
With all the ways we have to reach people in this modern age, some are wondering why Poore chose a more traditional form of marketing, such as a billboard.
Poore says this is because social media marketing often reaches the same people over and over again. Doing something different raises the chances of reaching different people, however.
“Social media, we tend to promote the same story to the same people,” said Poore.
“All we need is that one right person to go by, make eye contact with the billboard and we’re saving another life,” he continued.

Sally Sue has been staying with the Always and Furever Animal Sanctuary since 2019.
She is a pit bull terrier mix who loves people and affection. Unfortunately, Sally Sue’s age makes it tougher to be adopted.
There are definitely good-hearted animal-lovers out there who will welcome their home to a senior animal, however, and Sally Sue is just waiting to find her new family.

“I am so loved at the barn but I would love to have a family of my own,” Sally “wrote” in her adoption profile. “I will reward you with tons of laughs, lots of love, and will be a sweet spunky companion for any family! I really am the best girl and just want the chance to prove it to you!”

Poore would later say that once Sally Sue has been adopted, the billboard will be updated with pictures of other animals in need of homes.
“The dogs that’ll be on the billboard are the ones that have been homeless the longest,” Poore told KMBC 9 News. “The goal is to find her not just a home, the perfect home. As quickly as we do that, move onto the next shelter pet that deserves to be up there.”

Unfortunately, there are other conditions that Sally Sue’s new home will have to meet.
The shelter notes that she is an abuse survivor and shouldn’t be placed in a home with small children. She should also be the only pet in the home.
The right family is out there for you Sally. There are good people who are going to help you find it.
