Man spots lost and freezing dog on mountain so puts her on back for 6-mile journey to safety

It’s never easy when we lose our pets.

They are family to us, so it’s natural to be filled with worry when we lose them.

We give our best in every effort we make to find them again.

However, we sometimes give up hope when they’ve been gone for too long.

The Goetelen Family were on a hike on Lugnaquilla Mountain in Co Wicklow, Ireland, when they lost their dog.

They said that their eight-year-old Golden Retriever, Naoise (Neesha), and three-year-old German Shepherd, Harley, bolted into the woods to chase a deer.

They had gone too far that the family couldn’t keep up. They searched for them until the evening, but they couldn’t find them.

They returned the next day and only saw Harley in the car park.

No Naoise in sight. The Goetelens tried all possible ways to find her.

They brought a basket of clothes hoping the scent would lead the poor Golden Retriever to it, and they used a drone camera to search the perimeter.

Still, they couldn’t find her.

Two weeks passed, and the family lost hope.

Naoise was already eight years old, and it was cold up in the mountain. It was snowy, icy, and rather freezing.

They thought maybe she wouldn’t have a chance of surviving up there. It was a heartbreaking thought, but the family was ready for the possibility.

A pair of doctors went hiking on the same mountain two weeks after the Goetelens lost their dog.

Jean-Francois “Frankie” Bonnet and Ciara Nolan were on a winter hike when they saw a weak dog in the cold near the summit.

It was Naoise, and she looked hurt and couldn’t even bark or walk.

They couldn’t leave it there, so they had to find a way to bring her back to safety.

It was a six-mile hike to the foot of the mountain, around four to five hours.

The dog couldn’t walk, so they had to carry her all the way.

Ciara used her extra jacket to put on Naoise and her scarf to attach the dog to Frankie’s backpack.

They had to carry her that way until they reached the bottom.

They also gave her some food that they had left.

A few miles away, nearer to their car, they got a bit of sun to warm them up.

They also fed Naoise some bread and cheese; a few moments later, she could walk again.

The couple brought Naoise home and kept her warm right away.

They continued to look after her as they tried to ask for help from their local animal rescue group to track the owners.

Eventually, they reached Erina O’Shea Goetelen, Naoise’s owner, and she couldn’t believe that their pup was alive and safe.

Erina went straight to Ciara’s home and got reunited with Naoise.

It was an emotional reunion. She saw how her dog lost a third of her weight and developed dermatitis.

It also seemed like she was having post-traumatic stress since she wasn’t acting like herself when she got home.

But despite it, Erina was grateful for Ciara and Frankie.

It took a few hours for Naoise to get back to her old self – she was even more clingy to them right after. The Goetlens also worked on putting on the weight that she lost. She was simply happy to be home.
