Man cuddles with old rescue dog and listens to the pooch’s ‘sad stories’
About four years ago, the Pit Crew was called and asked to take in an abused senior dog. They did.

The Pit Crew staff stepped in and took a senior dog to their shelter in order to make sure he would spend the rest of his life in a safe, loving environment.
Because Hero, the rescue dog, was already eight or nine years old, and because he had been living in a very abusive environment, the vets believed that he had only months ahead of him.
So, they were desperately looking for a family to adopt him in order to give him all the love and care he deserved during his last few months on earth.
Soon, a couple appeared, who just immediately fell in love with Hero.
The couple already owned a dog, and they often fostered other dogs, and they were looking for one more love to adopt.
What Hero was looking for at the time, was exactly this. A loving home.
Rusty and Anna knew they wanted to take Hero home, but they couldn’t be the ones to make this decision.
Sugar Bear, their other dog, would be the one to decide whether they were leaving alone or with Hero in their arms.
Once Sugar Bear and Hero saw each other, it was love at first sight.
There was no doubt the family had instantly grown by one member.

The four of them returned home and instead of what was supposed to be a few months together, the four of them spent three whole years as a family.
Hero loved his human parents and his canine sister so much. The two dogs would sleep side by side, and they’d have fun playing in their backyard together.
Hero just loved to be petted and he wouldn’t let his humans stop giving him head rubs.
“If you stopped petting him at all, he’d start nudging you to remind you, ‘Hey, I’m still here,’” Rusty shared with GeoBeats. “If at any reason you decided to stop petting him and he couldn’t get your attention, no matter how much he nudged you, he moved on to the next person and he’d start nudging them.”
Hero was such a good boy!
He absolutely loved his papa, who he couldn’t stop kissing after Rusty first showed him how to do.
The senior dog got along with other foster dogs the couple took in over these years, and they all became a big happy family.
He also loved his mama, whom he followed everywhere, even in the bathroom.
Honestly, Anna had to get used to that!
Hero was as sweet as a dog can be. All he wanted was to love and be loved.
Rusty and Anna only wished they had found him earlier and spent more time with him. Sadly, the sweet dog passed away in May of 2022.
“Hero changed our family’s life for the better,” Rusty shared on Instagram. “The beauty of Hero is that after all he had been through, he only wanted to be loved by all he met.”
