Big brothers are supposed to look out for their younger siblings. It doesn’t always work out that way. But this big brother has a heart of gold.

Todd Burkemper might be six years older than his younger brother Alex, but that never stopped the two from becoming best friends.

The elder brother was lucky enough to fast secure a great job after graduating college. Within two years, Todd was a homeowner.

Alex graduated six years later. Todd wanted to help his little brother out. So he invited Alex to come live with him in his home.

For the first six months, Alex lived at Todd’s home rent-free. But the younger brother felt guilty, especially when he secured a job. So the younger brother insisted on paying rent.

Todd accepted the rent. But he knew exactly what to do with it. Instead of spending it, Todd opened a savings account.

Eventually, Alex made it to the point where it was time for him to buy a home of his own. He put an offer on a home near where Todd lived in Missouri. The offer was accepted.

So just before it was time for Alex to move out, Todd arranged for his family to have a goodbye party.

Sure, Alex was only moving a few miles away, but it was the end of an era anyhow! Todd also had an ulterior motive for arranging the party.

The brothers’ parents knew about Todd’s secret savings account. They also knew that Todd planned to surprise Alex with it during the party.

So the brothers’ family all arrived at the home. Todd announced that he had some news for Alex. The children’s mother started recording both of them.

“Although Alex was puzzled when he saw me with my camera out, he was even more confused, then completely shocked, when Todd held up a screenshot of the savings account balance on his phone.” – Barbara Burkemper, the mother.

Todd said two simple words to Alex: “That’s yours.”

But Alex still struggled to process what was happening. Where had this money come from, he wondered.

Todd then went on to explain how he had saved up all of Alex’s rental payments into a savings account.

Barbara, the mother, was also quick to add that Todd had put some extra money into the account.

Todd then explained that the money was for Alex to go towards his house.

Alex started crying. Todd had always been an incredible big brother, but this was on a whole new level.

Then Alex hugged his big brother. Both of them were manly men, but their emotions had taken over.

Alex is always going to appreciate what Todd did. Todd had every right to keep that money. But the big brother couldn’t just take money from his younger brother. It was completely against his nature.

The video of Todd’s announcement and Alex’s emotional response then appeared on YouTube.

In just days, it has gained tens of thousands of views. It also has almost 100 likes and a range of positive comments. People have been saying things like this:
