Hero drives halfway across the U.S. to reunite a dog with his owner

When Ikea Mosley of Wichita, Kansas, said goodbye to her boyfriend and 8-year-old dog, she was sure she was about to see both of them again in a few days.

However, things didnât go exactly as planned.
While Mosleyâs boyfriend was on a road trip with the dog, the couple broke up. This made the man angry and, at that point, he didnât even care about the dog he had been traveling with.
So, he just abandoned him and from that point on, he even stopped answering his ex-girlfriendâs calls.

Luckily, the dog was found on the street and taken to Caroline County Humane Society.
âOn November 25th we posted a picture of an older, very thin, super sweet Pitbull mix who had been found as a stray,â they wrote on Facebook. âFortunately he was microchipped.â
As the staff of the Humane Society wrote on social media, they talked on the phone with the dogâs mom who lived in Kansas, and she explained what had happened to the dog.
And, although one may have thought that this was the end of the story, it was not.
Ideally, Zambia, as the name is called, would have waited in the Humane Society for his mom to come and take him home. But this could not happen.
As Mosley explained, she had children and this made a trip impossible for her. So, they had to come up with an alternative.

The airline, which was the next option, said that they could not take the dog home. And thatâs when the dog owner started getting desperate.
She was afraid she would not see her best friend again.
âWe tried contacting Airlines but that proved to be an unsuccessful solution. We even contacted the Humane Society where his mom had originally adopted him. They did not have a solution for us either,â the shelter wrote on Facebook.
However, life had other plans for all of them.
A man named Zach Holt, who simply loved animals and he used to have dogs himself, knew that he could help Zambia and his mom.
Although the man hadnât made a road trip accompanied by a dog before, he thought he just had to give it a try.
âIâm a bartender,â Zach told WJZ. âI strictly work, you know, the weekends and Monday and I have Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday off. And four days is plenty of time to get to Kansas and back, so I said, âWhy not?ââ
Although the man made the trip without asking for anything in return, when people found out what he was doing decided to help him.
So, they sent money to pay for gas and food, while they also helped him sleep overnight before returning home.
Mosley couldnât be happier to see her dog again, and she couldnât be more thankful to the man who did this for her.
âI donât know how I can thank him enough,â the woman said.
What a heartwarming story reminding us that there are still people out there who can go above and beyond to help others.
