Man puts drone to use by locating animals trapped in disaster zones to rescue them
The little camera drone is a favorite toy for lots of folks now.
Just a few years ago, it was unthinkable that we’d have such an awesome little contraption to fly around and handle a camera.

Though here we are now, where drone footage for Instagram and YouTube is as common as money can buy.
With the utility of carrying a camera to places we can’t go, drones have a lot more uses than just pretty videos for Instagram. That flying camera can help spot missing objects and people.
It can give you a much-needed bird’s eye view of vast locations.

One man has been using his drones to spot missing animals in ruined places.
Cinematographer Douglas Thron has a handy drone in his toolkit. It’s helped him take some breathtaking photos and videos. It’s also saved a lot of lives.
Douglas is no small-time cinematographer. He’s done work for National Geographic, Google, Discovery Channel, and CBS News.
With that impressive of a resume, it’s obvious that the experienced cinematographer has done his fair share of traveling. In doing so, Douglas has come across a recurring problem that he continues to tackle.

All over the world, animals get lost or abandoned during times of natural disaster.
When people flee their homes and lose all their things, it becomes pretty hard to look after an animal.
Douglas has seen a whole lot of domestic and wild animals struggling in the aftermath of a disaster.
One can’t help if they can’t see who needs it. Thankfully, Douglas has eyes in the sky.
Using his reliable drones, he can scour vast areas and spot any living things in danger.
His mechanical flying friend can work its magic with Douglas behind the controls. The drone was how Douglas saved dozens of lost Koala bears after the Australian wildfires.

“With my infrared drone we were able to save dozens of koalas that would have died. Entire massive forest areas burned to the ground with the koalas just left in a sea of destruction. With my drone we could rapidly find them and rescue them and later release them in the remaining habitat. ” – Douglas wrote on this Instagram post
A human may have trouble trudging through ruin and debris to spot survivors. Once more, the drone made something a lot easier than it’d otherwise be.

Even when hurricane Dorian tore through the Bahamas, Douglas managed to rescue some of the animals who survived the aftermath.
He shared the footage on YouTube, where we get to see things from the perspective of his infrared drone.
It works so well that Douglas fervently asked people to donate and support the idea.
The local residents of Abaco island have told Douglas themselves what a big help the drone was.
“I have been working with multiple rescue groups in the Bahamas that said these tools would help with rescue missions immensely. With your support, I plan to be out there as long as it takes to get these animals to safety.”

Demonstration has always been the first step to new solutions. With Douglas proving how helpful drones are in animal rescue, it hopefully won’t be long before its use becomes widespread.
