Every day, Aldon O’neill Ward III would see an old couple walking by his home. When the woman was walking by alone and crying one day, he feared the worst.

Some people say that no one looks out for their neighbors anymore. This story proves that they still do.

Aldon O’neill Ward III lives in Mobile, Alabama.

Every morning since 2011, Aldon would see an old man and woman walk by on the sidewalk in front of his home.

They would wear matching clothing every day. They were an adorable couple.

Aldon’s dogs got used to the couple’s routine and would run up to them happily. The couple would wave at them and blow them kisses.

The old couple would always say hi to Aldon and remark on what a nice day it was, even if it was pouring with rain.

In all those years, Aldon never learned their names, but he kept chatting to them.

The years went by, and Aldon would be working out in his yard, landscaping the bushes or fixing up his truck. He’d always play music while doing these activities, and when the old couple walked by, they’d start dancing, no matter the genre.

But then one day, Aldon observed something tragic.

He was watering his yard. And someone started walking by. Aldon looked up, expecting to see the couple. Instead, it was the woman walking alone.

The old woman waved at Aldon. Aldon asked back “Where’s the better half?”

She shook her head softly and responded sadly, “I don’t have him anymore.”

So Aldon turned off his hose, dropped it and rushed up to her as she was walking away.

“Ma’am?” he asked, and she stopped. She turned to face Aldon, and he saw that she had tears streaming down her face.

Aldon hugged the woman, for a very long time. The old woman kept on sobbing. Eventually, she said, “I’m just trying to do the things that we used to so I still feel like he’s around.”

Then the woman paused, regained her composure and slowly moved away from Aldon’s embrace. “I needed that hug more than you know. Thank you for all the music,” she said.

The moment when Aldon learned that the woman had lost her husband was captured on his home security system. Aldon uploaded it along with his story onto Facebook.

This story touched many people. In just a few weeks, the video has gained over 2.4 million views. It also has over 46,000 reactions, 45,000 shares and 100 comments. People have been saying things like this:

We should all strive to be like Aldon.

It takes effort to show support to others when bad things happen to them. But as this story shows, it can make all the difference to the people who need it.

The woman must have been with her husband for a very, very long time. It may seem impossible for her to go on without him. But Aldon and hopefully others are able to show her that people do care for her during this difficult time.
