Man films as young woman takes blind man’s hand not knowing anyone is watching
It is true that there is a lot going on around the world: social and cultural tensions, conflicts between nations, the pandemic, inflation, and a whole bunch more.
In this cruel society that we are all living in today, it is somehow becoming hard to believe in genuine kindness.
But don’t be fooled.
Kindness is everywhere if you look.
Have we not seen real stories about people’s acts of kindness?
There are tons of them online and even on national television, real-life events showing that kindness is still among us.
And this one is no different.
Genuine kindness is doing it even if the camera isn’t rolling.
26-year-old, Casey Spelman was visiting her friends in the Wrigleyville area.
After a Chicago Cubs game, she saw a blind man who was trying to get a cab but with no success.
So, she decided to help the man who was later on identified as Yusef Dale, an assistant U.S. attorney in Chicago.
“I didn’t really think much of it at the time,” Spelman said. “It was after a Cubs game and it was still pretty crowded. I thought, ‘Man, it’s going to take him a while.’”
She walked beside Dale and stood by him as she helped him in grabbing a ride.
“Do you want some help getting a cab?”
Spelman asked, to which Dale responded by jokingly saying, “He said, ‘Yeah, you sound pretty, so cabs will probably stop for you before me.”
Spelman even asked him which seat he wanted.
While waiting for a cab, the two had a quick chat by talking about baseball, the crowd, and the afternoon game. Thankfully, after a few minutes, a taxi pulled in and before Dale even hopped inside, the two shared a warm embrace.
As fate would have it, a witness named Ryan Hamilton happened to be on a rooftop of a certain building near Wrigley Field.
Moved by the beautiful scene, he decided to take a few snaps of Spelman and Dale’s interaction.
Hamilton also decided to share the beautiful moment on his Facebook account.
It blew up.
Alongside a couple of Spelman and Dale’s photos, he wrote:
“Wanted to give a shout-out to this girl. No idea who she is, but we are in Wrigleyville on the rooftop of Old Crow Smokehouse. There was a blind Cubs fan trying to hail a cab for several minutes until the lady came up and asked him if he needed help hailing a cab. She stood there with him until one pulled up. Awesome to see such kindness in a world that the media portrays so much hate in. Share freely in hopes that her kindness spreads.”
As of this writing, the post has already amassed 38,000 likes and heart reactions, 12,000 shares, and nearly 1,000 comments from people who were equally moved by the young woman’s act of kindness.
Turns out, Spelman is a speech and language pathologist for the deaf at an Indiana school. She said she doesn’t want to be a hero and that what she did was something we all should be doing all the time.
“Treat people as people. Whether they are different from you. Whether they have a disability. Just remember that we are all people and we need to look out for each other. The world would be a better place if people do that every day,” said the kindhearted woman.
We couldn’t agree more with what she said.
It’s true, kindness should be normalized and that we must wholeheartedly do it even if nobody else is watching.
