There are almost countless ways to eat an egg. Whether you like yours scrambled, sunny side up, over easy, or even poached, just about everyone loves eggs. They’re the perfect breakfast treat for when you want something quick and easy but also nutritious and filling at the same time. Plus, they’re some of the least expensive protein sources out there.

If you’ve cooked many eggs in your lifetime, then you know they can vary depending on where you get them. Sometimes, the yoke is just an unusual color. Less frequently, you might even find a double yoke. That’s an exciting find when you get one like that. But what if you opened an egg and found something even rarer?

That’s what happened to one man

A few years ago, a farmer from Texas found a giant egg that one of his seven-month-old chickens laid. This wasn’t like a normal egg…it was so big it didn’t even look like it had come from a chicken. Naturally, he was curious about it.

He cracked open the egg

Since he wanted to see what the egg looked like inside, he cracked it open. At first, it looked just like a normal egg, just bigger. But after he found the first yoke, he saw something that was even more surprising.

There was another egg inside

Crazy as it sounds, there was another egg inside the first egg — it was smaller, which made it a normal size. After he got the yoke out of the first shell, it was easy for him to grab the second egg inside. Of course, he wanted to see if there was anything unusual about that egg as well. So, he decided to crack it open too… but it was just a normal egg.

He put it all on YouTube

This isn’t something you see every day. That’s why the farmer wanted to put the video online. He posted it to his YouTube channel, ashmorerv. He knew other people would probably be just as interested in seeing this egg as he was.

It got a ton of views

Most people have never seen a double egg before, so this video prompted a lot of response. It was posted back in 2015. But by now, the video has over 10 million views.

The farmer is amazed by his find

You may think this is something that farmers encounter regularly, but that’s not the case. Even though this guy is a farmer, he was surprised. You can hear him talking off-camera, saying, “Oh, I see another surprise! A double egger!”

It’s rare but possible

While finding a double egg is rare, it’s not unheard of. According to Poultry Help, a double egg can occur when “an egg that is nearly ready to be laid reverses direction and gets a new layer of albumen covered by a second shell.” Even though there may be a scientific explanation for the phenomenon, it still doesn’t make the experience any less unusual.
