Cat comes home from a walk, then owner finds mysterious note revealing the kitty’s double life

If you own a curious and adventurous cat, then you probably know how it feels when it’s gone for hours- or even a couple of days- without you knowing of its whereabouts.

The first few times are quite hard, when you don’t really know whether your fluffball is enjoying itself far from you, has found a new home, is lost or is just exploring the nearby sites and will be back soon.

As soon as the cat returns, then you know that this is probably the life it has chosen for itself and you have to compromise with this fact.

Much like Héctor Morales did when his cat, Nilo, started having days-long adventures outside the house.

Héctor, a young man from Villahermosa, Mexico, adopted Nilo the kitten when it was newborn. Nilo’s mom was a stray, so he decided to save his life by taking him home and providing the love and care a vulnerable kitten needs. The two soon became best buddies and they shared many fun moments together.

Nilo has always been a curious kitty, ever since he was a kitten, and quite outdoorsy. He would enjoy going for long walks, but he would always be back home in a few hours’ time.

But, as he grew older, he also became bolder, which basically translated to him being outside the house more and more every day.

At first, Héctor was comfortable with that, knowing he would come back soon, but when he first went missing for days, the man started worrying that he had lost his way and was desperately trying to get back home. But, eventually, Nilo returned showing no signs of distress.

“He always returns home, like he’d never left,” Morales told The Dodo. “Very calm, and fatter, too.”

When this was repeated a few times, Morales started thinking that something was wrong, he just couldn’t figure out what it was. Until a couple of weeks ago, when Nilo returned bearing a note on his collar.

As Morales explains, Nilo hardly ever wore a collar because he tended to take it off, but that day he did. That’s what prompted the other family to write the note, apparently.

“We are the other family of ‘Angelo,'” the note read. “When he’s not in your house, he’s at ours.”

Morales admitted he didn’t expect this to be happening, his exact words being that “it is unreal”, but after giving it some thought, he realized that it was good for the cat to have more than one family to care for him and provide all the love he needs.

“When I thought about it, I was grateful that another family cared for him and had even given a name,” he said.

The young man took the collar-message thing a step further when, the other day, he sent the family a note asking for their phone number in case he needed to leave Nilo (or Angelo) with them when he’d be on holidays. On the same note, he informs them that the cat had already had tuna before his outing.

Well, now that his double identity is compromised, Nilo might not get double dinner anymore, but he will certainly still get all the cuddles he wants!
