Man searches Internet for replacement dog — instead finds his dog that was stolen a year earlier

Anybody who has ever lost a pet or had one stolen understands the heartache it can bring. Many people are willing to go to great lengths for the safe return of their beloved animal companion.

Eventually, though, a pet owner who can’t find their pet has to face the hard reality that they are gone for good.

This is what had happened to 29-year-old Delon Pearson from Liverpool, United Kingdom. He had accepted that he would never see his 8-year-old Akita, named Missy, again. So, made plans to find a dog to replace her.

The story started when his dog was stolen from the front garden of his and his son’s home.

For about a year, Pearson searched frantically for his dog. But, after a year, he finally decided it was time to move on. He then began to search for a new dog.

He figured what better way than to search the Websites of local dog shelters to find another dog to replace Missy. As he perused the listings for Skylor’s Animal Rescue, he made a shocking discovery.

Pearson saw what looked like his lost dog, Missy, but surely it was just a dog that looked like her. But the more he looked, the more he was sure that it was his dog. He had to be sure. So, he called the rescue center, located in Dobshill, Flintshire, North Wales, to explain to workers at the organization what had happened.

“It was unbelievable, all this time looking for her without any results and with a search done on Google after almost a year, we managed to find her. We checked the result several times, including enlarging the photo, and to our surprise, it was our beloved dog,” Pearson told Bored Panda.

After talking to the rescue, Pearson was 100 percent certain the dog was Missy. Volunteers with the rescue center had found her only a few months earlier. She had been abandoned, more than likely by the same people who had stolen her, and tied up at a car wash.

Missy was waiting for adoption

Not having a microchip, it was all but impossible to find out who she belonged to, so she was fostered. By the time Pearson found her on the rescue’s site, she had already been taken into a foster home to await adoption.

Best of all, after all of the necessary checks were made, Pearson was told that he could take Missy home with him the next day.

Pearson’s son had grown up alongside Missy, so he wanted to keep her return a surprise to his son. The family drove to pick her up the next day. And while the rescue warned Pearson that Missy might not recognize her old family right away, his fears were removed when she recognized them right away.

Missy was once again where she belonged — at the side of the family that she loved and who had tried to find her for so long.
