Wild horse gives rescuer kiss after being freed from chains
What a beautiful sight!
Romania is known for its luscious landscapes, rich history, and is the country in which the legend of Count Dracula is set. This country boasts 8 UNESCO World Heritage sites. And, one of which is considered one of the largest and best-preserved deltas in all of Europe.
Formed by the waters of the Danube River, this magnificent ecosystem is home to over 300 species of birds, 45 freshwater fishes, and a slew of other animals. But, the most notable of these are the wild horses found here.
In our world as a whole, these majestic creatures have contributed greatly to the development of our societies.
In learning how to utilize its natural power and strength, we humans were able to evolve at a far greater speed.
Having horses allowed us to move farther across the land and work more swiftly. And, because of this, it enabled us to have even more trade and industry.
As years passed and more and more machines were built, some of our world’s horses were then being used for different purposes. In developed countries like ours, they’ve since amazed us through sport and competition and provided us with another sense of leisure and recreation.
But, in developing countries like Romania, they’re used even more and worked even harder than what seems to be the times before.
To this day, a large population of Romanians still use horses to work the fields and travel from place to place because of the poverty they live in.
They heavily rely on their horses to do the work that they need to do; but, sadly, they lack the financial resources and education needed to properly care for them.
It’s a common practice in the country to chain together the front or the hind legs of their horses to keep them from running away.
Many of their horses live in harsh conditions and are fed little to no food each day.
Horse-owners often run their horses into the ground and beat them up to keep them going.
They see them as a cheaper alternative to vehicles but, sadly, they don’t realize how, like any other car; thing, or even being in the world, they need to be checked up on regularly and taken cared of well to be able to work efficiently.
So, moved by the plight of these horses, the animal welfare group FOUR PAWS International works across different Romanian communities to help.
They provide acute assistance and veterinary care for the horses and hold training programs for their owners so that they’d be able to understand the needs of the horses they work with.
One particular veterinarian of theirs actually becomes known for having gone against the normal treatment of horses in the country when he helped out a horse he saw chained in the legs in a village near the Danube Delta territory.
As seen here, Dr. Ovidiu Rosu shoots a tranquilizer gun to sedate the struggling horse he sees.
He approaches when he knows that both he and the horse will be safe.
When the horse lies calmly on the ground, he cuts off the tight chain that pierced deeply into its skin and waits right beside it until it’s able to stand.
When the horse does, it looks right into Dr. Ovidiu’s eyes and gently rubs its face on his.
:) It was a simple yet powerful gesture of love and appreciation, shared by one heart to another.
This story teaches us to take care of what makes our world beautiful, even if it means going against the norm.
There are so many parts of it that are. Some are even just beyond what’s considered Natural UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
