Man comes up with clever way to get revenge on thieves stealing his packages
Not all revenge stories are brutal and bloody. Some of them are actually funny. Well, that depends on which angle you’re hearing the story from.
Matt Coats is just like any other people when it comes to ordering online.
He gets excited as he waits for his package to arrive. He probably looks forward to the day it finally reaches his front door.
Unfortunately, that day doesn’t always end up as he expected.
Porch pirates are common in his area. In fact, after moving to Portland, Oregon, Matt has heard a handful of stories about missing packages. He even experienced it a couple of times.
He shared:
“I think the worst part about porch piracy is just feeling so violated. To have somebody come up into your space and take something that’s yours.”
Right after hearing about another incident, he decided to put an end to it.
He took matters into his own hands and started planning his “revenge”. He carefully considered all factors and came up with the perfect plan.
Matt didn’t have a hard time planning.
Porch pirates are so common in his neighborhood. When he guessed that another thief would drop by and steal something from his front door, he wasn’t wrong.
Fortunately, he was prepared for the attack.
He had the perfect partner to execute his plan- his dog! He got an REI box and filled it with dog poop. After that, he intentionally left the box right on his porch and waited for a porch pirate to attack.
Three days after, someone came over to take the “package”.
As part of his preparation, Matt had installed a security camera on his porch. This allowed him to see the actual incident.
The thief stopped by Matt’s neighbor’s yard.
There, he took a light projector. With the way he stole it, you can easily tell he’s been doing it for a long time.
Right after that, the thief went over Matt’s porch.
He grabbed the “package” and went to another neighbor’s lawn to steal another package. It was an expensive package since it’s worth $120.
Matt didn’t get to see the thief’s actual reaction.
A friend texted him that just about four blocks from his property, his “package” was found on the street. Even without directly seeing the thief’s face, it’s safe to say that Matt’s revenge was a success.
Matt has no plans of stopping.
As long as there are porch pirates in his area, he plans on making things extra hard for them. He’s out to teach those bad guys a good lesson about stealing other people’s packages.
In an interview with KGW8, he shared:
“If we’re going to be annoyed, why not have a little fun with it? Why not make their lives kind of a pain too?”
Matt’s method may not be the best way to deter thieves but it was surely effective. That porch pirate will probably think twice before getting a box from another person’s property again.
