Paramedics in Chimbote, Peru got to witness something extra special when they showed up to help a man who’d sustained a head injury. The man had fallen in the street and struck his head hard enough that he needed immediate medical attention. When paramedics arrived on the scene, they were struck by the touching scene before them.

The man who hit his head wasn’t alone. He had two very devoted dogs by him who refused to leave his side.

It was clear to the first responders right away that there would be no separating the dogs from the injured man.

Seeing that there was no help for it, paramedics figured it would be easier to do their job if they just allowed the dogs to stay with the man. So, after they got the injured patient safely loaded on the ambulance, they allowed both of the anxious dogs to crawl up inside to be next to their owner.

One of the dogs, what looks to be a boxer-pit mix, was particularly worried about her dad. She refused to leave the gurney and continued to lick the man’s head wounds, doing her best to heal him.

At this point, the paramedics were already going out of their way and against the norm by letting the dogs in the ambulance. Believe it or not, though, their kindness to the two faithful dogs didn’t end there.

Shockingly, when the ambulance arrived at the ER, workers even allowed the dogs to come into the hospital with the patient.

Clearly, all who saw these dogs worrying over their owner were touched by their stubborn devotion.

The whole time, from the moment they were loading the man on the ambulance and throughout his reception into the hospital, one of the paramedics was recording as the two dogs clung to their owner.

It’s clear in the video that the man isn’t exactly sure what is going on. He continues to try to lift himself up to get off the gurney even as responders hold a blood-soaked cloth to his head wound.

As workers keep pressing him back down and trying to hold him still, his two dogs are circling and clinging to the gurney as if to let him know that they were right there by his side.

When he finally does see his dogs clamoring to make sure he is okay, the man is instantly visibly more at ease.

He finally begins listening to what the paramedics are trying to tell him and he lowers himself into a resting position on the gurney. That’s when the same dog who was licking his head wounds leapt up onto his gurney with him and laid her head on him as if to let him know that she would be there with him no matter what.

Seguridad Ciudadana Chimbote, the hospital where the man and his dogs were taken, later shared a couple of photos to their Facebook page. One was of the faithful dog cuddled up next to him on the gurney, and the others were from later that afternoon after the patient had been treated.

Even as he was being rolled out in a wheelchair, his concerned dogs never left his side.

The photos were uploaded with a caption that translated to :

“Example of loyalty. The patients of the day,” wrote Joha Morillas Zapata, one of the hospital workers.

It appears that the patient would heal from his injury just fine, no doubt thanks to the tender, loving care of his trusted dogs. To see the special bond put on display when these dogs rushed with their owner to the hospital, watch the touching video below.
