Man on 37-mile hike in freezing weather he hears “screaming” coming from leafless trees

Movember is a fundraiser dedicated to men’s health; its aim is to reduce premature death among men due to cancer and suicide. This past November there was a challenge that many people accepted across the country. “Move for Movember”, asked people to run 60 miles over the month, symbolizing the 60 men that lose their lives to suicide per hour across the world.

A man from British Columbia, Max Adams, decided to take on the challenge since he had lost his grandfather from cancer and his best friend had recently been diagnosed with colon cancer. This had been a very tough year for him, and he felt that in this way he was honoring them.

“In the last 15 months,” Adams says on a viral video posted by The Dodo on Facebook, “my best friend was diagnosed with colon cancer – he’s only 40. And my grandpa, he passed away in February to cancer as well.”

So Adams was hiking 60 miles in the High Prairie area, when he heard noises in the snow. After taking a closer look, he realized there was a little kitty on a tree, calling for his attention. Adams went closer to it and picked it up. He was determined to find his home because he was sure the cat was lost and that his family was looking for him.

The little kitty immediately captured the man’s heart, and he was tempted to name him “Kilometer 10” or “Polly”- he said he jumped on his shoulder as if he were a parrot. But then he realized that if he named the cat it would be more difficult to let it go once they found his owners.

So the two of them walked together for a while, looking at the farms nearby, Adams trying to find out which one he had “escaped” from. They spent two nights searching, and eventually, they found them.

“The day he went missing,” Adams said, “there was a massive snowstorm that night. They looked high and low everywhere for him all around the farm really upset.”

The family members were all really worried about the cat and they finally gave up looking for him, thinking that he had been eaten by some coyote. Especially the family’s little girl was so upset that her parents almost immediately got her a new kitten.

This meant that, after all, Adams could keep the little snow kitty. He took it to the vet, who diagnosed frostbites in his tail and had to remove it to avoid further complications, and then took it home with him. He even posted a poll on Facebook asking his online friends to vote for the best name.

Although Adams admitted he preferred the name Mr Moe, his Facebook friends had a different opinion. So, Hytch is now safe in his new home with his amazing rescuer! We are glad that the kitty found a new loving home, while we’re happy for this guy who, in the kitty’s eyes, found a friend forever.
