Rescues are always a big thing, but the ones that involve tiny kittens are slightly more special.

A few years ago, a man rescued a super small kitten that was hiding in a neighborhood playground. Apparently, someone had abandoned it there and it had just created a comfort zone around the place that it wouldn’t leave.

Brad, the real name of the “crazy cat man”, as he calls himself, is, used to pass by the playground, and one day he spotted her. He saw this little cutie hiding and then reluctantly get out of her hiding spot when there was something for her to eat.

The man realized that if the cat stayed there, she ran the risk of being run over by a car as the playground was right next to a busy highway. She was also terribly lonely. Although there were lots of people around the neighborhood, Brad noticed that nobody took the time to care for the young soul.

“I could tell so badly she wanted someone to be with,” Brad told The Dodo in an interview, “and she wanted someone to help her… I wanted to be the one to do it,” he said as tears came to his eyes.

So, he went home and a little later returned with some cat food and water for the kitten. Brad was familiar with taking care of cats since he already had Sparta, a beautiful tuxedo kitty, and Tom Cat, another former stray.

So, he left the tray on the ground and, when the kitten got out of hiding, she went straight to it and started eating and drinking water. He was looking for an opportunity to grab her and take her with him, but he noticed she would not get out of her “protected area”. She was too scared to approach him or let him approach her.

Yet, Brad didn’t give up. He knew he had to help her and he was determined to succeed no matter how long it would take. So, he went back to the playground the next day. Still, she wouldn’t get closer to him than 25 or 30 feet. But, Brad was by then captivated by her sweetness- he would keep on trying until he gained her trust.

Indeed, he went back to the playground over and over again, until he had the kitten’s trust. And then, one day the opportunity arose. While she was focused on her meal, Brad was able to grab her and take her with him.

Unlike what he expected, she didn’t try to escape or react in any way. She remained calm and quiet.

“I could just tell,” Brad recalls, “that, for one, it was a successful rescue, and two, it was the beginning of a beautiful life for both her and myself.”

April, as he then named her, soon felt comfortable around her new daddy. By the time they got home, she was all over him and playing with him as if they had known each other forever.

Although Brad was quite unsure about how his other pets would react to the new addition to the family, April quickly became friends with Tom and adjusted perfectly to her new home.
