Man interrupts boy on piano with Bohemian Rhapsody request – gives crowd a show they won’t forget
When 12-year-old pianist Cole Lam played the first notes to Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody,” two gentlemen quickly approached him.
The crowd thought they were trying to stop him from playing this very difficult song. But, according to Cole, they were going to request him to play the same song because they wanted to hear more from him.
Luckily, he was already going to play it!
Cole was at the St. Pancras Railway Station in London when he played this iconic song. He used the Yamaha piano that Elton John donated and left behind at the station for the people to enjoy.
The Rocketman had signed it with “Enjoy this piano. It’s a gift. Love, Elton John.”
And Cole has definitely been enjoying this grand piano. This piano remains his favorite piano to play with and he has gone back several times to perform different covers.
He has performed Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal,” Wiz Khalifa’s “See You Again,” and The Village People’s “YMCA.”
He’s also played several Queen covers, including “Somebody To Love,” “We Are The Champions,” “Love Of My Life,” and, of course, “Bohemian Rhapsody.”
He’s also played cover songs of the man who was responsible for the piano being there in the first place, the Rocketman, Elton John. He’s played “Rocketman,” “Crocodile Rock,” “Your Song,” and “Candle In The Wind” on the Yamaha piano Elton John gifted the train station.
During his performance of “Bohemian Rhapsody,” there were already quite a few people watching him. He’s also played a few songs before this and they wanted to listen to more.
His performances were so captivating that one man actually missed his train because he wanted to listen to more!
Besides being a pianist, Cole also plays the guitar and clarinet. He is also a singer, songwriter, composer, and performer. He also played Lawrence in the Andrew Lloyd Webber production of the musical School of Rock in London’s West End and he’s also a member of the National Children’s Choir.
His public performances on his YouTube channel have ranged from 1,ooo views to 5 million views.
But this particular performance of Bohemian Rhapsody broke all of his records on YouTube. This video has had almost 19 million views! And not only that, he reached 10 million views in just three weeks!
But Cole isn’t surprised.
“Bohemian Rhapsody never fails to pull a reaction from a massive crowd!” Cole wrote.
Since Cole loves to play on Elton John’s piano, he is there at the St. Pancras Station a lot. Because he’s there a lot, he knows how big the crowds around him get.
“There’s usually a nice crowd here – and this time it was enormous!” Cole exclaimed!
Cole is only 12 years old and he’s already such a gifted musician. The music he plays publicly may all be song covers but they’re all still his own arrangement.
And when so many people have continuously asked him where he gets his sheet music from, he decided to make it available for them to purchase online.
Let’s hope Cole continues to serenade the people of London (or maybe other cities) with his dazzling piano performances regularly.
In a city that’s fast-paced like London, it’s nice to witness an experience where you can just stop, let go, relax and enjoy.
